Now i just updated PMS to newer version. But Plex still can't display thai character. I think problem is about PMS not player because i use external srt subtitle file so plex using transcoder to embed subtitle before streaming to player.

Thanks. Now, for us to be able to replicate the issue, tell us which subtitle show what, and also as we do not speak or read your language we need to know how it should look like so we can compare to what it actually looks like.
For chinese subtitle, i use it to test that PMS can display other language. But i don't know PMS display chinese letter correctly or not. so forget about this.

thanks Atrus for your initiative, In the same time I suggest you to give me example of case where subs fetched by the metadata agent are not the good. I have a prototype of a big improvement of the curent metadata agent for OpenSubtitles and I have yet good results.

Ok. Interesting. That subtitle file works just fine for me in PHT. Nevermind, I didn't understand that I needed to force transcode in PHT for this to show up. Replicated!
I actually created a plugin called PlexTools that will automatically download subtitles from OpenSubtitles.org for your selected language automatically.You can also manually download subs if the automatic method downloads the wrong one. If anyone would like to see additional functionality I would be open to adding it as well. You can download it from the Unsupported AppStore or from Github.
I need "global subtitle folder support". And its security issue.
First I apologize my bad english, it isnt my native language. But I try to be clear.
I have got 11 younger brothers and sister (so combined thats 12 children including me).
We have NAS server sharing files for all of us. There is one old i3 laptop for plex server (and this computer is used for browsing also).
Plex(i3) server uses files over SMB. But permissions are problem. I cannot share permissions for everybody. So movies NEED to be read only.
Ofcourse this leads to problem where someone would like to load subtitles for movie, but they cant. OPTIONAL, Global folder would solve this problem for me.
Oh, and I know there are many ways around this problem. "Global subtitle folder" just might be the easiest for me.
I hope this is not too much work for you guys, maybe one day youll add this option. Thanx.

Give me one good reason why this should be supported, and I might take this to the devs. Just a heads up: "I am to lazy to put my subs in the same folder as my movie" is not a good way to persuade me to take this to the devs ;)
I would say the one good reason is that when acquire movies from sources online they are all organized with subtitles in a separate directory, every last one. I don't think I've ever seen this done another way. Back in the early days of Plex I remember a trend of Plex using the scene standards to decipher the titles and to join multi-part movies which was really big back then. In fact I think I even remember in the wiki explaining naming as using the scene standards. Also back then Plex auto decoded rar archives so we know the devs were following along with what was being released, as they should have to make everyone's life easier. Look at the series episode naming.
I agree with the argument you made about the sidecar files being in the same directory I don't see why they would put anything in another directory. However it's somewhat arrogant to say that because that should be how it is it is not supported. Somewhat Steve Jobs-esque. The release groups are doing it that way because they started doing it that way and then XBMC, VLC and several other media players saw what they were doing and supported it to make a better product for their users, just like the naming standards. The media players follow the release groups standards to make a more functional product.
Don't take what I said the wrong way, you're doing the lords work. I understand it's easy to misunderstand words typed in a box, just like a lot of people would take your one good reason statement the wrong way. I know exactly what you're getting at. I work face to face every day with end users of my companies product and I hear all kinds of hair brained ideas from people all day but only the ones they can really convince me to get behind I actually take to the developers.
I can say this much... Plex is damned near perfect but there's this one little irritating factor that drives people nuts. I'm a native english speaker so I don't need subtitles often but when I do it drives me nuts and I completely empathize with the people that watch with subtitles all the time. The opensubtitles.org agent works just fine but they only do full movies. For us English speakers the english subtitles aren't often burned into the videos for foreign audio but often in these cases in the Subs directory there is a "forced" subtitles file as well as the english subs. For me I have PMS on a headless linux box so moving them would be a pain. So instead of being able to turn on the forced subtitles that someone took the time to make I have to turn on the full subs and have them annoy me during the whole movie.

It shows up as unknown language because you forgot to add the country tag in the subtitle filename before dropping it in the global subtitle folder. Add a .eng before .srt if you want PMS to recognize it as english for example.

Atrus...I have seen multiple posts indicating you are not a fan of this type of configuration. Are there any performance based reasons for that, or is it based on your preference and stated belief that it is more complicated for the average user to understand how things are connected?

Both actually :) I am not a fan of this for two reasons.
1. There is already two places where the subs can be stored (next to the file, and in the bundle). Adding a third place just makes it harder for us that tries to help, and for the developers that need to make sure all three places work for each and every release.
2. It is just a mess. Having all subs in one location without any good structure. If a sub does not work, you need to search through a humongous amount of subs all in the same folder. Kind of disturbs me that someone does not want to have a good organisation. And that is of course my own preference, but at the same time it will also tie in with point 1. It makes it harder for me and the other volunteers to help out when something stops to work.
Another problem i think is that subtitles now are downloaded somewhere in the cash? I really don't know where.
This means that if for some reason i want to create a second plex server , that uses the same set of data (movies, series etc) i have to redownload every subtitle (since these are not stored nor in a local folder neither in some global folder)
So another thing that should be done is all "auto downloaded" subtitles shoudl either be stored localy OR in some global folder that can be easily accessed and copied so subtiltes downloaded are not lost.
(also take into acount that there is a hard limit in opensubs so you cannot download thousands of subs again and again for no reason)
I found solution for not display thai character from this topic. After replace DejaVuUniversal font with Arial Unicode MS, subtitle can show thai font.
From this problem, There should be subtitle setting to let user choose font for subtitle
What is missing i think is "on demand" getting subtitles from the client.
For example
a.) Want to watch a movie or tvshow. See that there are no subs
b.) trigger a plugin to get a list of available subs for the current movie-tvshow
c.) Select the one you think might work, probe (start middle end , to see its synced)
d.) if everything is fine done, else select another one.
All from the client
+1 - just like it's possible in XBMC since ages.
Subtitles are really the only thing left bugging me with Plex. Me and my wife like to watch movies and tv shows in their native language (which is foreign for us), so we like to have subtitles. The auto-download of Plex is a big mess, so I had to implement a tool that loads subs based on file name. But still it's very frustrating to watch a movie, find out that the subs don't work, explain to the wife why I have to stop it for a few minutes, walk to the PC, download the right subs, start the movie again... When back then with XBMC all that was possible with the remote control. But then again Plex offers other features I really like, so going back isn't really an option. :(
PLEASE do something about this - I'd bet it would be much higher rewarded among us users than eg. the trailer feature.
+1 for extra functionality with subs please. Manual download options + delay/move forward + different language options would all be much appreciated. My OH is Italian and all of our movies/films come with English subs. It'd be great to have something decent in Plex. I've just started using it and this is a deal-breaker - already thinking about XBMCs extra functionality now...
