I’m not sure what this really tells me -
I’m guessing the ones with more than one sub probably have forced subs - unfortunately using makemkv, it seems it doesn’t always flag the forced subs. I tested with Air Force One, GodFather and GodFather 2 and none of them show they have forced subs - just that they have subs. I think I’ll definitely need a collaboration project where anyone who knows of a movie with a forced sub and the time it occurs or the scene, I can start building a consolidated list.
I’m going to go back and flag all the forced subs using mkvtoolnix but I’ll need a list to work off of. I suppose I should have figured this out when I started - if my forced subs were flagged as forced subs I wouldn’t need this list.
Thanks so much!! Worked like a charm on about 2/3ths of my movies! I ripped some that have more than just english subs - I’ll rerip them and test them and let you know. It also didn’t work on some that are just english subs such as Outcast (2014) and Bad Ass (2012) - not the end of the world - I just thought you might like to know. Already - you’ve put me so so so much closer to getting what I want so I really appreciate it - no need for you to continue toiling.
Now I just have to figure out what movies I have where there are some forced subs (that don’t work) so I can test.
If anyone knows the scene in these movies I’ll give it a try -
A-Team
Assassin’s Creed
Baby Driver
Bad Boys for Life
Bad Boys II
Body of Lies
Bourne Ultimatum
Clear and Present Danger
Dead Pool
Defiance 2008
Enforcer
Equalizer
Equalizer 2
Escape Plan 2
Gladiator
Hunt for Red October (I think there is the talk on the sub with baldwin and the connery - I’ll check that in a bit)
Kingsman The Golden Circle
Kingsman The Secret Service
Mask of Zorro
Mile 22
Mission Impossible - Fallout
Mission Impossible I
Mission Impossible III
Mission Impossible IV
Mission Impossible V
Old Guard
Olympus Has Fallen
Rambo III
Ronin
Sum of All Fears
xXx Return of Xander Cage
Edit - I did go back an rerip a couple of movies and it will list the number if you only have English subs, which is all I need - really great work!!! I’m not trying to make you my slave but if it could just show movies with english subs of less than 400 words (I can’t imagine having an forced sub where they even need 200 words).
OK - so here is where I’m at - thanks to everyone I’m making tremendous strides in my project.
I had the A-Team (no comments from the peanut gallery
With multiple language subs , the script won’t tell me much (which is because I said I only do english)
I re-ripped it with English only
Ran the probe script
VOILA! It told me the movie has 4,340 words for the default and 130 for the other track.
I play the movie with VLC or Plex - no forced subs.
I put the movie into subtitle edit and tells me right off the bat about 1 minute in they speak spanish!
I open the movie with MKVtoolnix - change the smaller sub track to forced and enabled and what a joy it is to behold - I now have a movie that forces the sub automatically in Plex! No extra files, no worries about timing - just perfect!
This will take a very long time but I’ll post my list of movies if anyone has any interest.
If you already have mkvtoolnix open, you might as well remux the file (instead of just editing the header, which is faster).
This puts the necessary statistics in, so you can later use e.g. https://mediaarea.net/de/MediaInfo to view the number of lines.
Another indispensable tool, IMHO.
Scanned through this thread and seems odd to me. Might be reading things wrong but here is my input on subtitles.
There is a program that easily rips the .srt files individually from the disk I use it often:
There is also a VERY nice Excel list maintained that tracks movies with and without subtitles, to date it has listed every movie I looked for in it when I needed subtitles.
Hope this helps
After ripping the subtitle I typically burn the .srt into my ripped movie, I prefer not to bother with the hassle of my sever trying to trans-code subtitles on the fly into movies.
It did - I am a doofus and never noticed there was more than one sheet in the workbook - I took 1 second, saw the first page and thought it was useless.
