@Craig_Holliday .
My previous issue of a this file will not load on my ATV even after renderer was made active. If I change Playback to Original, then de bugging will not go away.
Update: Debugging is on by default, so all is good except it won’t Play automatically. Sorry for that.
I was invited to the Plex beta and have started testing. I used the sample file below to test the beta version and I am seeing audio/video stuttering. The video seems to play in slow motion and the audio is way ahead of it.
I am using an Apple 4K (3rd Gen), connected to a LG C2 which is then connected to a Samsung HW-Q800B Sound Bar via LG C2 earc hdmi port of audio passthrough
The above is the same issue I see with Only Murders In The Building, which is also a TV show that is through Hulu
The sample file shows up as Dolby Vision on my TV when I play it through Plex.
I also have Infuse on my AppleTV and tried to play the same sample file below. Infuse also shows the file as Dolby Vision but it plays without any issues, no stuttering and audio and video are in sync.
I shared a sample file that caused extreme stuttering a while back. Could someone with beta access try playing this sample and report back on whether or not it plays smoothly or not? Link to sample
No you have not it clearly shows the file was being transcoded. So the server was decoding the file and the Apple TV was only playing the reencoded file.
Thanks for putting this together, its great to see progress being made!
Setup
ATV 4K Gen.3 → Sony HT-Z9F → Sony A80J
Original Issues
• Global video delay of around 300-400ms, varied based on video (higher for high bitrate HDR/DV content)
• Certain DV files (profile 5?) would trigger the old player, preventing me from using the Audio Offset and resulting in extreme video lag >500ms
Beta Experience
• Delay now seems to be stable across all types of content at 350ms, alleviated by Audio Offset
• No longer seeing a switch to the old player when playing the same DV files, nice one!
Other
• I been using Infuse to watch 4K HDR/DV content, wasn’t experiencing any video delay and it played all DV content
I’d be careful in regards to DV Profile 5 been played on the MPV player? Believe DV P5 files should be playing on the old player as the MPV player didn’t support DV at all? unless @Craig_Holliday can confirm this is no longer the case? otherwise your are getting “Fake DV”
I received the invite code, but wasn’t given access to 8.34. I was in the regular beta, and if I tell TestFlight “Stop Testing” it freezes. Restarting TestFlight, the ‘old’ beta is still there. Putting in the invite code just sends me to the 8.33 beta I’m already on.
I should have some time later to test a bit more, but I just did some quick tests (with the same h264, 1080p, SDR, 23.976 files that were displaying the problem since version 8.18 of the app) and so far I couldn’t reproduce any of the usual stuttering on my 3rd gen ATV 4K. So it seems this new renderer is really making a difference. That’s very encouraging!
Just wanted to also add I’ve tried to play this file also and it causes extreme stutter… even if my ATV is not in a media cabinet… through-out the test the ATV always showed the thermal state as nominal.
@Craig_Holliday I’ve noticed I’ve also been kicked from the normal TestFlight? only build i see i the current one for this new player stack.
I have been testing the sample file and have a quick question, in the settings there is option to Use Old Video Player - what does that do? Reason I ask that I turned that option on and tried to play the sample file. With that option on Plex won’t play the file, all I see is the spinning wheel in the centre of the screen. On my Plex Server - Dashboard it tells me the file is buffering and instead of showing up as Direct Play it is showing up as Direct Stream.
Even when I was using the normal public version of Plex, if I tried to Use The Old Video Player it would do the same thing.
My AppleTV is hardwired to gig switch, my files are stored on a Synology DS1821+ and PlexServer is installed on a Intel NUC i5 12th Gen
