I couldn’t resist making a Mean Girls joke, but we’re getting off topic. We need to get this fixed.
I believe they upped ATV to 2.3 and guess what? Our problem wasn’t on their to do list, apparently.
I also tweeted at them with a link to this thread, I suggest others do the same. Probably won’t help, but they at least need to be aware of this bug.
Hi bruceagreenberg
I just want to confirm that I have the same issue and really stopped using Plex to play music because it sounds terrible, I hope Plex development will spend some time to resolve this.
gjna,
You might want to try installing Emby. They are an excellent source of backup programming. I have both running on my server and they are serving the same files. Emby is properly streaming 5.1 audio (although they haven’t gotten gapless going yet… at least it is on their road map) and Plex is streaming my video. Although, I have to say, I’ve had Plex streaming nearly error free for the last 2 years. suddenly, it has crashed twice in the last 2 weeks. I’m wondering if the entire Plex code base is suffering these days. So, if I have to drop Plex, at least I have a good fall back option. And seriously, who has Tidal on their road map (besides Plex)?
It’s been over a month now. Not a peep from Plex and nothing resembling a fix has shown up. But, I did get a nice notice that if I wanted to continue to be able to add music to my library, I needed to be on the latest version of the server. Not sure how adding music to a service that doesn’t work would be useful to me. But it’s good to know. Meanwhile, I apologize for my semi-regular posts to anyone who is following this thread. If I don’t keep posting, the thread will go away, and, as upset as I am with Plex, honestly, I’d still like a resolution to this problem, because… when it works, it works really good.
Just wanted to say… DITTO. Gah… Please stop me from using VLC…
It looks like version 2.4 has been posted for ATV and… Still no fix for the audio issue. So, just how far down the list are we?
Pretty far down, I guess. I regret buying a lifetime Plex Pass, since it’s suddenly useless to me (this was my primary use for Plex).
It never occurred to me that if I bought a lifetime pass, I wouldn’t have a bargaining chip. So, now, if I say that I’m done with Plex, it doesn’t hurt them. It’s like those people who burnt their Nike shoes out of protest. And how does that hurt Nike? Same with Plex. All I can do is keep this thread up until they do something. Meanwhile, I’ll keep using Emby for my music.
And now Embry updated and isn’t playing my 5.1 music correctly either. Ugh.
VLC still works so I know it’s not an Apple TV firmware/hardware problem.
Fix this, Plex.
It is still playing my FLAC files okay. I’m on version 1.4.1.02. Is that the version you’re on?
Embry or Plex? Neither is playing 5.1 FLAC properly for some reason right now.
That was the Embry ATV version. Also, have you reported it to Embry? They actually respond to you when you write.
Same problem here - has it really been a month and a half since this bug was reported with no response?
A month and a half and 2 ATV version updates. Still nothing.
Same issue for months! Temporary, I use Plex for PS4 (not very good) for my surround sound music. It use so much energy and generate so much heat compare to the Apple TV, this is a shame.
They still add new features but they broke this and the casting (remote) play. I tried to use both Apple TV and iOS beta version, same issues. I hope your thread will wake them up.
Since they haven’t even responded to this thread, IN ANY WAY, i doubt they even know it exists. Not sure if that is better or worse than them knowing and saying nothing. But I’m going to keep this thread up as long as I can, until it is fixed. Meanwhile, Embry is a decent replacement. It has its own quirks, but at least I can listen to my 5.1 music on my ATV.
I don’t know why but since they changed the forum it feels like none of the bug report we post is read. They should have a system to show us they are aware and add this to a checklist.
I couldn’t agree more.
