Apple TV Beta 7.5.1 (21540) New Detect Ads option

Now we just need to generate ad markers for PLEX ON DEMAND and LIVE TV

Is there an estimated time frame? None of the my existing videos have commercial markers.

Also, what is the best setup if we don’t want to have ads detected for certain recordings? Should the DVR settings be set to ā€œDetect ads and mark for skipā€ as the default and change it to disabled for recordings we don’t want detected? I know there’s a bug in the UI where it always defaults to DVR default regardless if it’s changed on a per recording basis.

I love this new feature :slightly_smiling_face: It’s great to have a non destructive way to skip commercials.

They’re handled in a completely different way, and ads cannot be skipped on that content.

I know, I was being facetious

Not really, it depends on your library size and how beefy your server is. It happens during scheduled maintenance. If for certain recordings, then you can disable it at the recording level, like you suggested. However, if you then add that to a library that does detect ads, I’m guessing it’ll probably still detect it, just not immediately

Thank you for the info.

I am wondering if anyone in this thread is using a custom comskip file? I am, and could not get 1 of the 3 test shows to populate any markers.

I’m using a custom comskip.ini in a DVR folder in the Plex data directory. It’s working fine after a recording finishes. I can see it’s using the custom ini in the logs.

It’s only been working right after a recording completes. It hasn’t created any commercial markers for existing content.

I’m on 1.20 + but In DVR Settings I only see Detect and Delete Commercials or Disabled as my two options. Yes, I previously used the delete option. But what can I do Now to get the Detect and mark for skip Option?

I had to stop and restart the server before I could see the commercial skip option.

You probably need to restart your server and client apps. :slightly_smiling_face:

Restarting the PMS Got the option to appear, Thanks!

I’m excited to test this. I’m so glad to see Plex is looking to improve this feature. I’ve tried the competition’s mark to skip and mark and delete Feature, and it’s very elegant.

My first impressions are that this feature has a lot of potential. the skip ad button is appearing about 2 seconds late, and returns me to the last second or so of the last ad. It also has completely chopped off the end tag (the last tv segment after the last series of ads) on a couple shows I’ve tested.

It’d be nice to see the markings of the ads on the FF tracking line, and to be able to choose if I want Plex to automatically skip.

This is just the first step

Detect ads and mark skip doesn’t appear to be working for non DVR’d shows. Only shows recorded in Plex are working. I’ve waited for the overnight scheduled tasks to complete but still not working for manually added shows.

Please make sure you have that preference enabled for your library. It can take a while to run through everything.

I do have the preference checked for the show library and I don’t see a detect ads option in the main server Library settings like Skip Intro.

I created a new library and added one show to test. But commercial detection doesn’t run on shows added manually. Shows recorded from the DVR works great. All recorded shows had skip commercial markers.

It’s under Manage Library -> Edit -> Advanced
