In my last post I was referring to the demise of PMP and the rise of Plex HTPC from the ashes.

At that time, sure, there was a fair amount of public forum support for the continuation of a PMP offering but many realised it was a niche product.

I was surprised it happened even though I was a strong supporter at the time for the rebirth.

Without the obvious support from key Plex people, it would not have happened.

Those people aren’t there anymore. The desktop apps may exist in some format but Plex HTPC can’t survive sadly.

Yes, just a wild guess but this thread in particular was always going to develop into a discussion thread as opposed to a solutions thread. As you said, asked and answered in the first few posts.

Killing PMP

Playing devils advocate…Plex are actually observing that as they say they have metrics to show that the overwhelming majority of their users are not HTPC users. If their metrics are correct, their approach is valid. I’m one of those ancient HTPC users but I recognise that most people I know are now using streaming devices such as the Shield, not a HTPC. I’ve dumped PMP already and using Kodi as the player.

Why HTPC Support Should Remain Indefinitely

Hey Devs, I will respectfully try to explain why I believe HTPC support should remain indefinitely. HTPC users like myself have dedicated loads of man hours, money and resources into building actual home theatre rooms for our families. In my case a Mac Mini hooked up to a 70inch 4K UHD TV. This is primarily the way we enjoy movies. Although we have roku ultra in other rooms for viewing, the Mac Mini experience is far better and will not likely be replaced by streaming devices.
