ARMv8 platform alpha testing - Discussion & Troubleshooting

This thread is for general questions, discussion, and troubleshooting of Plex Media Server on QNAP and Synology ARMv8 (RealTek) processors.

At this time, real-time transcoding is enabled. We did this to allow us to better profile the processor’s capability in real-world usage.

These devices do not have Hardware Assisted transcoding capability and most only have 1 GB of RAM

As requested in the companion thread to this, please stay on topic and only discuss functional differences with mainstream PMS on other platforms. Purely subjective discussions don’t help at this level of testing. Our goal is to ensure all of PMS’ functions are operating.

An example of functional: “Can’t DirectStream H.264 AC-3”
An example of subjective: “Can’t index new media and stream at the same time”

As stated in the other thread, we’re very impressed with these processors and think you will be too.

Also as requested, please keep control of your topic tags and keep them within this tagged (forum) area.

The more robustly we can test and performance profile, the better I can sit down with engineering and make the final determination about what will be generally available when we’re done.

Thanks.

XPost from other thread, as requested.

DS418, running DSM 6.2-23739 Update 1

Logs were nonexistent. I mean the files were there but completely empty. 2/3 of the existing Plex processes/threads running were sleeping. I ended up bowing to cliche and turned it off and on again (the disk station) and its working now. I’ll pipe any log updates somewhere safe while it runs tonight.

Non-existent / empty? There will be at minimum 5 log files.

If you interacted with the Plex UI, the Plex share must exist and in that Plex share, under Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server you will find the Logs directory.

If you do not see the Plex share in File Station, go to Control Panel - Shared Folders and grant your username permission to R/W the Plex share. Close and reopen the FileStation then navigate to the Plex share. If nothing exists then PMS never installed on that host.

Researching issue with some AppleTV playback sessions.

IF error manifests, it manifests as “Couldn’t create the playback session for this item”

Same for me. Apple tv 4.

Thanks for confirming. Looks like we’ve found it. I’ll update with info as it goes.
It’s been replicated with the TrueHD 7.1 codec. Other codecs seem to play without issue.

Please advise if anything else discovered.

Have an update for my DS418, running DSM 6.2-23739 Update 1
I let it dig into my media library overnight, last I checked was around 4am CT, got up and can’t get it to run and the logs are oddly silent. The binary is running but there’s nothing listening on 32400

Logs please?
Can you post them in the adjoining thread for Q/A/troubleshooting?

Apple tv not working at all with any video format :frowning: Every time this error “Couldn’t create the playback session for this item”.
IPhone client works fine.

@PlexMan

The teams (Apple and Server) teams are on it now .

I have moved our posts over to this thread (Discussion) while we work out what’s happening.

I can’t even test transcoding because when I launch PMS I get the “Get your Plex Media Server” page. Can’t find any server settings anywhere. How do I get it to recognize content on my NAS so I can test it?

After you installed the package, did you open http://ip.addr.of.nas:32400/web and perform the first-run initialization and setup ?

I did. It took me to the sign-in page and after authenticating it took me to the page I see now. I’ve checked permissions on the Plex share that it created, reinstalled the spk, restarted my server, etc.

@slfrsn

I’ve moved us over here where we are free to diagnose what’s happening.

In the upper left corner of your browser, you can’t select the Synology in the drop down list of servers or otherwise?

Can you grab a screenshot so I’m 100% in sync with you?

This is what I see. After the initial prompt to sign into my Plex account it took me here right away. I never saw any server configuration steps.

Please confirm?

Did you get to perform the proper initialization & setup wizard you normally see?

If you didn’t; What’s the IP of your computer and what’s the IP of the NAS? They must be on the same subnet for first-run setup

If you did get the proper setup, can you grab me the logs (ZIP) manually from the Logs directory in the Plex share? (add your username with R/W permission in Control Panel -> Shared Folders if needed)

I don’t have a computer running Plex. The NAS would be my first PMS. So to answer your question, no there was no initialization or setup wizard. It took me straight to the page in my screenshot.

I understand your PMS is on the NAS. You used your computer to access the NAS to install the SPK.

You opened DSM with http://ip.addr.of.syno:5000 to get to DSM, right? (it should also show in the address bar of your browser)

Do me a favor? Look at the IP address of your computer (where the browser is) and that of your syno.

Can you tell me what they are?
