ovouvy, How you did it?
Every time I complete the package installation, the systems shows the plex app but not the server. I never reached the server configuration. The system ask my for the PMS… What I did wrong?
Im entering from the same private network. I can access the NAS configuration at “:5000”, but the PMS it’s not at “:32400/web/index.html”
Anyone can help me?
Thanks!!!
Chuck,
I have the same problem as @slfrsn but I’m entering from the same private network at home.
Can you help me?
Thanks!
Yes, I can.
Please create a new thread and call me to it (@chuckpa) I’ll be notified
In that new thread please recreate the condition and then post your logs so I can see what’s happening
Chuck,
I can now get Plex to load live tv and recorded shows, but it constantly buffers on the Roku express and Roku 3 to the point it’s not watchable. About the longest I get before it buffers is 1 minute. Everything works great on my Android phone. I tried both the hdhomerun connect and extend with the same results.
Thank you,
Mark
Thanks Mark.
Results will be mixed with DVR. I am expecting this.
If you look at any of the shows you’ve recorded, do they show up as MPEG2VIDEO or H.264 ?
If H.264 then the Roku will be happier. Roku does not accept MPEG2 and requires transcoding.
Some earlier profiling results in this topic (another reason we are here) is to see what it can and cannot do.
As much information as you can gather would be great. Source codec, target codec, bitrates, Player & settings, etc
I don’t want to turn off Transcoding for this unless I absolutely have to (like the ARMv7). I think we have a good shot here of having Some transcoding capability even if limited to H.264
Hello,
I’m a simple user but I will try to help you.
-
I download the package from this forum
-
I goes on synology server, and where you can download apps I downloaded manually.
-
I goes on Plex and he recognizes my server on local.
Currently I can’t use on another TV but I can use in different app outside my WiFi.
Hope it helps you

That works for me too! Thank u
is there any chance armv7 (e.g. 216play) devices get support? transconding with built in software runs very well… Also some interesting things I found out: Playback on XBOX 360 app (with different sizes) works fine. Is it because xbox does transcoding in that case and not the server? Because I only have issues on Web Browser (“server not powerfull enough to convert”-error…). However, there is no chance to play back anything because I think transcoding is always requested. After converting using optimize feature it play fine. Hopefully ARMv7 will be supported? 480p would be enough!! Totally fine for 99% of my use cases (mobile/tablet/browser).
Best,
Chris
Please redirect your ARMv7 questions to the main forum. Be advised, the state of ARMv7 platforms decided before I joined Plex…
This sub-forum is devoted to ARMv8 alpha testing only since I’m the engineer tasked with bringing it to production-ready status
Version 1.13.6.176 is working great on my DS218play, with both the LG TV app and the Samsung TV app. No problems found so far. Thank you so much for your work on this. Is there any prediction when it will progress to Beta and GA?
I asked that question yesterday. The reply was:
- There is an upcoming more encompassing beta. ARMv8 support will be included in that beta.
- Upon completion of that beta cycle, everything new will be General Availability.
This means ARMv8 updates will roll out with the same timing as every other PMS build.
That is great news thanks Chuck. Can I presume you will update us all here when that happens? ![]()
Do kittens like milk and dogs like bones?
PS: No, I won’t be giving up my day job LOL
I have a qnap 228a.
Tested playback on:
EE TV Box all works well apart from slight buffering with MKV format.
Firestick all works well.
Sony Z3 all works well.
LG Tv with WebOS all works well.
Windows 10 PC all works well.
Qnap is attached via ethernet mains powerline adapters.
Great! Thanks for reporting.
I’m about ready to update the PMS executable so please stay tuned.
You’ll see where I will add the new download link
Chuck,
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, week got away from me. It looks like all the shows I recorded are in the MPEG2 format. I bought the HDHomeRun Extend to try and help with the transcoding, but that doesn’t seem to help, although I’m new to all this so maybe there’s some settings I need to tweak to make the HDHomeRun Extend transcode instead of the Synology. I apologize if this is a dumb question, but what is the best way to get the source coded, target coded and bitrate information?
Hi Chuck,
I’ve been using the 27-07-18 version of your alpha since Tuesday, on a Synology DS118 and the latest version of Plex for Apple TV 4. It works great – doesn’t feel like alpha software at all. A few things I’ve tried (this is all from an unencrypted SMB file share on my Synology, running DSM 6.2-23739 Update 2, connected over gigabit ethernet to my router which generally gets 78Mbps down/18Mbps up over fibre in the UK):
- In terms of navigating the UI and having the right things show up in the right places, everything worked as expected. Metadata for movies and TV worked, and so did playlists (both smart and dumb) and plugins.
- I set custom metadata on some shows/movies and the server handled this correctly and remembered my settings.
- Direct play / direct stream of 4 simultaneous 1080p / H.264 files on the local network, including 1-2 files with bitrates of ~10-12 Mbps. Worked great
- Direct stream with audio transcoding – DCA to AC3. Worked great, reported as ‘throttled’ which I understand is actually a good thing! I think one of those files might even have been Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD MA, although I can’t remember
Some limited x264 transcoding seems to be possible. Here’s a test I ran:
- iPhone 5S connected to local 802.11ac wifi.
- Tried playing a TV show episode which was H.264, 1080p, 14Mbps, with AC3 5.1 audio. Initially set Plex on iPhone to 720p (High) in playback settings. This half-worked – it took quite a while to buffer then played for a minute or two before buffering again. The CPU on the Synology was up at around 90-100%, RAM usage at 43%. I didn’t have any other significant tasks running on the Synology (no active downloads, Time Machine backups or Cloud Syncs).
- Switched down to 720p at 2Mbps. Ran well for 1-2 mins again, but then periodic buffering for 1-2s every minute or so. Synology CPU at 90-95%.
- Switched down to 480p at 1.5Mbps. This played comfortably. After 2 mins, Synology CPU was still at 90-95%. Little bit of buffering after a few mins, for a second or two.
- 320p at 0.7 Mbps was stable.
- Then I moved the phone off wifi and onto 4G (Speedtest reported this as about 6Mbps down, 2 up) and set Plex to ‘convert automatically’. After the first 3 mins of playback, this was running at 2.9Mbps, SD, no buffering. Synology CPU at 85-92%. After 5 mins, it was at 0.7 Mbps, SD. Occasionally it did switch up to 720p though.
Obviously it can’t do a huge amount of transcoding, and the source file was at the high end of the bitrates I tend to use, but I’d much rather have some limited transcoding ability than none!
Anyway, thanks for all your work on this Chuck. One question I did have: when the beta or general release for the ARM v8 CPUs is released, will I be able to keep my Plex database? I.e. metadata, custom playlists etc?
Thanks for the detailed testing and feedback.
Your testing results and ours dovetail quite well. It seems that “Up to 20 Mbps DirectPlay / DirectStream” is possible. The general consensus is that SD and 720p transcoding are pretty solid regardless the bitrate with Some transcodiing of 1080p transcoding. This is how it will likely be listed on the NAS Compatibility Guide.
To answer your question about Beta and final release,
Everything you have now is already in production form. All the existing metadata is fully production and will carry forward as is . I saw no benefit in deviating from the standard.
When the Beta comes, you will simply install the beta package and continue running just as you would any normal PMS release / update. The same will be true when final production. Install and go.
As additional information, If you uninstall on a Synology box, your metadata remains. This is because I store it in the Plex share on the main volume independent of the executable package. Because Synology doesn’t permit us to downgrade in Package Center, storing independently on the main volume and then having the installer find it during installation seemed the most logical course of action.
I am testing the next Alpha release of the software. If all continues to go well, I will push it to public this weekend
Brilliant, thanks!
I’m running a DS116 and DS118 side by side with the identical config.
Just using Sonarr+DS to acquire and Plex to play video.
The DS116 is running the latest version and the DS118 the July 27th release.
My use case is very straightforward, but I have identified nothing that is not working on the DS118.
Also the ARMv8 (realtek1296) is much faster than the ARMv7 (armada38x).
Thanks for your great work, @ChuckPa!
