Do you have enough memory ?
The ARMv8 (IIRC) is 1GB max physical.
Do you have enough memory ?
The ARMv8 (IIRC) is 1GB max physical.
While running plex I havenāt noticed the memory pegging or getting anywhere close. Itās currently sitting at 44%.
but you canāt access it.
whatās your computer? are you familiar with ācurlā ?
Correct, Iām unable to access it.
Windows 10. Iām not familiar with that.
Thanks for all your work Chuck!
I am using 1.13.6 build on my DS218 pretty successfully. Since I had all my content already setup on the synology NAS, I ran into some issues with the rights management but found the information in this thread helpful and was able to overcome it.
Everything runs wonderfully when using 1080p content and below, and the build does not feel like an alpha.
4k playback is hit and miss. It works great without transcoding, but when i tried to transcode my 4k h265 hdr movie to 1080p the NAS hit full cpu utilization and I got an error on Plex Media Player soon after. At the same time another movie I had played back just fine using the same transcode, but a much lower bitrate source (CPU util was around 47% in this case). No luck with HDR so far, I dont even know if that is supported.
I think everyone will find DirectPlay for anything you can throw at it will be fine.
The ARMv8 canāt really handle HEVC decode of 4K bitrates.
ok, then weāll have to do it via the browser (browsers have ācurlā to get web pages built in)
enter the simple value: http://127.0.0.1:32400
It better come back with refused (401) error
Chuck, youāve lost me. Where do you want me to enter that value? Iām guessing you want that to be entered on the Synology since itās a localhost IP?
A am VERY sorry. The hour here is late.
http://ip.addr.of.nas:32400 with nothing trailing.
There are 3 possible outcomes from this:
If itās ārefusedā, then the NAS itself (e.g. Firewall) is blocking connection.
If you get ā401 Unuauthorizedā, thatās PMS talking to us exactly as I expect.
If the browser tokens (cached) are still ok, Plex/Web will load.
It could be that @bdarr has his router port forwarding setup through another port that isnāt 32400 for Plex.
Ok. Thanks for the quick update. In chrome I get an ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED, in IE I get INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND. @jds0026, I do have manual port forwarding to a static IP using port 32400.
I have been writing under the assumption you are on the same SUBNET as the NAS itself (Itās local to you and both your computerās IP and itās IP indicate that same subnet.
If this isnāt the case, please let me know because frankly, iām running out of ideas short of blaming the networking at a different level.
Just to be pedantic (please forgive).
Both are Private LAN (per RFC1918): 192.168.x.x , 172.16.x.x -> 172.31.x.x , 10.x.x.x addressing.
and both have the same CIDR bits assigned to delineate host from network (e.g. /24) with no routers in between.
@ChuckPa: Iāve done intensive testing with the older SPK file. During four hours of continous playback on two devices in parallel (Sonos and Smartphone) there was no single hickup/disconnect with the previous version. So maybe something has changed in the newer build. (The mentioned SMB problem seems to be independent from plex.)
There were changes in 1.13.5, which we have some of in our 1.13.6 āalphaā flavor.
The 1.13.5 issue has been seen in many places and engineering is on that.
Mentioned SMB? Did I overlook something or am I just getting tired and forgetful?
Correct. It is on a 192.168.3.x subnet /24. I access the Synology directly by IP address. This morning I deleted the library folder in the plex share after zipping it and uninstalling PMS. Reinstalled PMS from scratch and Iām able to access the initial setup now. Delete the Library folder and extract the existing Library folder into the plex share, then Iām back at square one, unable to access PMS. Is it possible to migrate just the watched shows history, recording settings, and libraries? Hopefully that will keep out whatever is causing this issue.
Yes, it is possible to migrate āWatchedā status from one instance to another.
It does take a little command line work which you can do when SSHād into the Syno or at any system with SQLite3 installed

While writing about a general PMS network problem in our previous posts I did mention an additional SMB v2 problem on my DS 118, but it seems to be completely independend from the plex package. Thanks again for your support!
My main concern about SMB was the announcement of a 2012 SMB vulnerability which the security team is already aware of and will be fully addressed when we update one of our runtime libraries (weāre testing all the updates right now)
Iām pretty sure the hardware for it is there as I can transcode a video in Video Station with no impact on the processor of my DS218. A file that takes an hour to transcode in Video Station takes just below ten hours to transcode in Plex on the same DS218, but I guess that could have something to do with the actual quality of Video Stationās āhighā setting compared to the āvery fastā setting of Plex as wellā¦
What seems pretty scary to me about your post though, is that you say Video Station is being cancelled. I was already feeling pretty cheated in having fallen for all the impressive stats they list on the homepage about the DS218ās hardware transcoding abilities, only to find out that these are exclusively locked into their extremely basic Video Station app, but now theyāre officially cancelling it? Is there some sort of replacement in the works? I tried searching for some information about it but came up empty handed⦠Do you have a link to information about it?
I know this is a Plex forum, so please feel free to ignore my request for a link to something Video Station specific if you donāt have a source fresh in mind
Thanks for all the great communication in this thread!
Your concern and question regarding Video Station is well founded and a concern to everyone.
The last official information we have from Synology is that they will discontinue Video Station.
If they have since reconsidered that decision I would very much like to know.
We have asked to have the hardware acceleration API information be made available but have received no information to date.
If Synology wishes to keep the API proprietary, it is their decision. The only thing which might change that decision is customer feedback.
