Aspect Ratio // Mod: display aspect ratio on video details

I would like to see a field add for the aspect ratio of the media. It would be nice to be able to get feedback for the aspect ratio of the media I'm watching

Thanks

Web-Interface, click on a movie, and then select the info-button on the left

Thanks, but the info button only shows the aspect ratio of the file.... so if the movie is 235:1 it still shows 1.78 because the file have the black bars....

I would like to see this ability as well.  I would like to override the aspect ratio that plex parses from the file.  Like sandman says, sometimes movies (all blu-ray remuxes for example) have the black bar in the picture so it is impossible for something like mediainfo to give you the correct aspect ratio.

Way old request, but I could use this as well. It would be trivial to accomplish as you can pull the data from IMDB. I need the true aspect ratio of the movie, not the file which as sandman_ave points out is not always correct. My use case is to change the aspect of my projector to maintain the correct displayed aspect ratio on my 2.40 screen.

I am currently pulling this off by using the shared tag and manually populating it. But it’s a pain to do it for each movie.

Any chance of this every happening? In addition to being able to use it for home theater automation, it would also be nice to see the movie’s correct aspect ratio on the movies info page. Right next to rating, resolution, soundtrack mix, and subtittles.

Not what you want, but ExportTools can generate a list for you if needed?

I would love to see a movie’s aspect ratio as found on its IMDB page under Technical Specs next to its runtime, MPAA rating and Tomatometer rating. It would be very useful for those of us using Plex HTPC in a home theater with a projector who will need to prep their screens for viewing. It is not as easy as clicking on Get Info on the web version of Plex. Additionally, pulling aspect ratio information from IMDB will allow us to check against the version we own (via get info).

I have a video processor that does auto aspect ratio (Lumagen Radiance Pro), but sometimes it does not get it quite right, and sometimes I’m a good ways into watching a film before I notice I’m cropped in on it.

I too would love to see this feature. I also have a Lumagen, and haven’t had it wrong yet, but I would still like the aspect ratio easily provided.

I just got my lumagen this weekend so I’m pretty sure I have the auto aspect settings mixed up somehow between the lumagen and the Plex htpc settings. I’m going with the constant-image-height 16:9 zoom method from lumagen’s tips and tricks pdf.

This is way off topic, but on your Plex HTPC, what do you have your zoom settings on? Maybe that’s what I have wrong, haha.

In the Plex player on the HTPC, Zoom is set to normal.

Hmm. Yeah I have that set to normal too. Next time I’m in the theater I will mess around with the settings and see if I can get to the bottom of it. Thanks!
