Audiobook Library option

Come on! This needs to happen.

Vote it up!

I think having audiobooks with position tracking and pulling from audible and goodreads would be a tremendous addition to Plex. With a combined vote over a thousand when you look at the multiple threads, it is a given that it is desired by a large part of the community.

Adding the ability to read epubs, pdf, html, and mobi books would be a definite plus along with audiobooks and support from Goodreads and IBDB. Calibre Integration would be huge!

While I don’t care about comics personally, there are many here that do so having a reading library, a comic library and an audiobook library would be key features that would bring Plex to becoming a media solution more than just a home theater solution.

Kind of frustrating the audiobook feature request is split into multiple threads it makes it difficult for people to discuss.

It is also difficult because there are so many sub features that go into this request a few of which are outlined in this thread.

I would love audiobook support that is separate from Music library. Books would remember where I left off listening from (partially implemented currently), full m4b support (I’m experiencing issues currently for audiobooks made with AudioBook Builder on Mac - no DRM) and downloading of metadata - cover art etc.

Calibre handles my ebooks and I use my Kindle Paperwhite for reading ebooks so not sure if Plex for me would be useful.

+1 Vote for separate audio book library with all requested features. This is my number 1 wish for new plex features, I would absolutely love to sync playback between devices, being able to listen from my phone in the car, pause then pick it up on my laptop or TV would be fantastic.

I’m a audiobook-collector and need an audiobook-library (and an comic-library) more then other cool (or sometimes useless) features like Alexa, DVR, Cloud sync or similar stuff.
I have so much audiobooks on my server, unfortunately i can’t hear it on my way to work or back to home, because PLEX will not save (or sync) my heard position. I want to use PLEX in my car instead the boring audible-app.
Most important features for me: save position in audiobooks and sync the position to other devices.

Plex does have the ability to save position for music. It is in the
advanced settings of the library. It still needs some work but it is there.

One issue right now however is that to use the saved position you have to
play the track not the album. Another is that plex does not note what
tracks you have listened to and which ones you have not(like it does with
TV shows).

Yeah, but it doesn’t work to well for music either. When I open the Plex app on my iPhone for instance after it was closed, it remembered the position it had when I closed it, but when I press again the song starts from scratch.

Interesting, I don’t believe I have had issues like that. I am currently
having an issue with plex mobile reading the track length incorrectly but
plex web is reading it fine.

So it is giving you the option to resume at a position but when you
tap/click resume at hh:mm:ss it start the track over.

You are clicking/tapping to play the track and not the album correct?

No, when I open the app again, it opens the ‘current’ item in the bottom of
the window. When I press Play in that window it should continue where it
stopped last time (it does that with video), it doesn’t ask to resume or
restart from beginning.

There are no good ways to play audiobooks from a server. This would be huge and I think requires very few changes to plex in order to do. It really just has to treat a pile of audio files like a movie so you can resume playback.

I am in the process of researching how I can move my Audiobook library over into my PLEX server - and digging down through these forums for tips and tricks on making things happen. I’ve been collecting Audiobooks since they were on cassette tapes (even digitized a few of those) and love the idea of “PLEXifying” them so I can have access wherever I have the net.

The problems of course are in how to force fit them into PLEX at the moment as Audiobook support is still not there.

Does anyone know of a user who has posted how they were able to load their books into PLEX and use them? As you may know, many older audio CD’s were broken into hundreds of files, and I am wondering if I should be joining all of those files (PLEX may have issues?) or just leaving them in their own folders.

this thread has information you might find helpful

http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/57673/very-popular-remember-position-for-audiobooks/p17

as for the cds you collected yourself, it is helpful to merge them into less files, i keep my parts around 8-10 hours long, you can use programs such as mp3merge

and the last post is how i sort my metadata/mp3tags and folder structure

+1 vote here for audio book support. Also, why do we not have a podcast plugin? This would seem a trivial addition?

Audiobook support would be a nice addition to Plex. +1

+1 Yes please give it to us. the sooner the better.

Golly this would be a tremendous feature for me. I listen to most audiobooks via Cloud Sync and usually have to take a screenshot of where I leave off “reading.” It’s a frustrating workaround to say the least. A simple bookmark feature would be quite beneficial. Thanks. (+1)?

Audiobook support would be very good +1
