Auto detect TV show episodes by their audio tracks

Many TV shows on disc have the problem of in inaccurate sorting. Because of that it takes a huge amount of time while ripping TV shows and verifying the order of all episodes, because I need to open an episode and compare description and/or screenshots of them through The Movie Database. And of course the renaming of the files itself costs time as well.

Wouldn’t it be possible that Plex builds its own database based on audio track hashes? Like the French audio track has the hash fb234484afb3223 and by that its clear, it must be season 2, episode 5 of the TV show “bla”?

It would be a dream to rip only discs without thinking about the filenames at all. Of course this could be a separate menu in the Plex server settings which is a “wizard” which checks all episodes and asks the user if they are sure that episode 5 is really episode 5 as the plex database thinks its episode 6. At the beginning many users would need to participate to build a reliable database, but finally it will be a huge benefit for all I think.

Finally this would be something like FileBot, but inbuilt in Plex and fully automatic.

There’s already an existing suggestion discussing an option to match files based on their content “finger prints” (or sound prints). I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes. Unless I’m missing some unique aspect of your suggestion I’ll close this thread as a duplicate.
