Auto detect TV show episodes by their audio tracks

There’s already an existing suggestion discussing an option to match files based on their content “finger prints” (or sound prints). I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes. Unless I’m missing some unique aspect of your suggestion I’ll close this thread as a duplicate.

Content-based file matching (Fingerprints)

As of now the step from a video file to an identified title is 100% based on the file name. The process is finicky and fragile – it causes problems and lots of effort for users, as shown in the forum, where file mismatching is a recurring topic. The current process also forces users in a corset how to name and organize files. The suggestion is to make the process for video identification content-based via fingerprinting.
