Automate my TV Shows? It's gotta be possible?!

As a long time Kodi user, I’m used to my TV Show(s) management being organized and fully automated… is it possible with Plex? I’ve spent hours trying to figure it out.
I think I should be able to:.
(1) Select the TV Shows I watch and keep them in one simple list. (like a Playlist)
(2) The Top row would display IN PROGRESS Shows (New Episode available), and once the episode it watched, the show drops down into the Watched rows.
(3) When new episode is out, the show pops back up to the top. Sorted horizontally by the oldest “new” episode is first.
IS this possible?

Isn’t that how Continue Watching works?
You start watching a show and it’ll bring up new episodes until you’ve watched the entire show. Same if new episodes of a watched show has been added to your library.

OK, but where is a list of the shows I watched? They disappeared and I can’t check them. But more important, where are all the other shows I want to watch? I saved them to a Playlist, but they don’t do anything.

A playlist is just another structure to organize media for playback – it’s not a watchlist. There’s a feature suggestion asking for a Watchlist and Plex have commented they’re working on it.

As for where to see what you’ve watched… there’s a number of ways to do that:

  • Using Plex Dash or the server dashboard / watch history in Plex Web
  • Sorting/Filtering your library to show watched episodes
  • Use the Recently Watched hub on the library’s Recommended tab

I understand that I can get all the info I need by searching, clicking a different link, and then clicking another link and etc… my issue is, a WATCHLIST should be a no-brainer…organized and automated…
I actually can’t believe it’s not available…I sit down to watch TV, I want to go to my TV Shows and see which one of my shows has a fresh episode, or if I’m up-to-date, maybe I’ll start a new show that I haven’t started yet…all in one list.
Thank you for your help

There is some functionality for Plex listing a show you watched that has a new episode. The problem is that Plex sorts the “Continue Watching” list based on the date you played the previous episode. So if you watched the last episode of a show (like, a nightly talk show), the show vanishes from the list. In the meantime, you watch episodes from 3 other shows one at a time, the “next episode” of each will be in the front of this “Continue watching” list. If you add a new episode of the nightly talk show, since you watched that 4 shows ago, it shows up 4th in your “Continue watching” list, not at the front of the line.

If you look at the “Recommended” tab of your tv shows library, there is a specialised hub for resuming older series. It’s called “Rediscover”. It does list every show that you started to watch in the past and which still has unwatched episodes.

On top of that, the Continue Watching hub can be told to include older shows if there was a new season added to these shows. You can find the preference under
Settings - Server - Library - ‘Show Advanced’ - “Include season premieres in Continue Watching”
