I think we have all been there. We are trying to watch a movie and it has to buffer every few minutes. Plex software is smart enough that it knows that the server may not be powerful enough to support the stream. Maybe it is only an intermittent issue because of the format of the video file or if there are multiple users hitting the server at the moment that is causing the issue. Regardless of the cause the experience is frustrating. My idea would fix this.
We would simply allow Plex to automatically switch the stream to a server that also has a copy and may be less busy. For example my server may be really busy and making it difficult to watch Captain America with my family but my friends server may also have a copy that it could switch to during one of the buffer windows and just continue streaming from that one.
I can think of a few setting that I would want with this feature. 1. I would want an option for whether it would switch servers automatically or if it would have a prompt during one of the buffers. 2. I would want a set number of buffers before it would transition. Maybe I only want it to prompt after 5 buffers instead of the first time.
