So I run Veritas, It used to be the king of backups back in the day, its still out there and mine is V2018 which is 100% windows 10 compatible. This was some kind of merger between an enterprise backup and the old Norton Ghost.
Anyways, this software has no problem backing up the entire computers C drive while the computer is in use. So would it be safe to say that this could be used as another means of a database backup? I can easily use the recovery point browser to find the database files in the veritas full computer backup file should I need to.
All of the guidance I found says the server must be stopped therefore I am wondering about the usefulness of the database files that are in the backup.
Is the guidance to stop the server just so a vanilla copy / paste or zip process will complete without files being ignored due to an in use status? Veritas has no issues making copies of “in use” files marked this way simply because they were open in a read state by plex and the likely hood of the scheduled tasks running during the time all of my recovery point sets are being created is practically nil and i can even make sure this never happens by playing with the times they start.
