I appologize if this was addressed somewhere else, but I can't find a discussion covering this...
What would be nice to see is a way to flag a file as bad (i.e. error in encoding) so that friends can flag your library when they find a bad file. Then, (obviously) a way to pull a report of which files have been flagged as problem ones.
(I encoded a huge library very quickly and some need to be re-encoded... but I'll never find them all myself)
No such feature is available currently. Best to have your friends shoot you an email with the title in it to have you ReEncode it.
In case you missed it, the OP is in the Feature Request subforum asking for a feature :)
But yes, that is the work-around I would use as well until a possible solution can be developed if the interest in this is big enough. Or use a Facebook group like I do.

I think this thread was somewhere else at first ;)
The only challenge I see in the flag is that each client might have different "bad files" dependent on their capabilities
This may or may not be true. If a device dosn't support direct play of a file for what ever reason, plex should be transcoding it down to something it can handle.
I suspect this "Bad File Flag" feature would include something like a open comemnt box to indicate the problem or a defined list of 'the ususal suspects'.
