Bandwidth mgmt should be priority #1

As long as the servers can supply 4 MBit/s upload it is a real joy to use Plex getting content from other servers. In my country ADSL is very popular which, unfortunately, has only 1 MBit/s upload. This means that non-technical people that start using Plex blame it for the buffering issues.

It would greatly improve the acceptance of Plex if these buffering issues would be solved automatically when using a mixed environment of servers that have different bandwidth capacity.

It’s like having to control the fuel/air mixture of the carburetor in the early days of automobiles.

Cheers

??? Mixed environment? What are you talking about? If your upload is 1mb, then that is the limitation & it has nothing to do with plex and everything to do with your ISP.

pffffff
Your paraphrasing proofs you can’t read. It’s not that strange you fail to understand.

Then please, elaborate what proofs I cannot read?

You were paraphrasing me and left out the essential part that I’m using servers with different bandwidth.

But the damage you did to my thread has already been done. It’s now all about you…

You mean Load Balancing between several servers that all have the same content? ....

I think he means that if you have a client, with the rate set to 4Mbps download and you have multiple servers, say 10Mbps, 2Mbps and 1Mbps uploads, the streaming form the first server is cool, streaming from the others may suck.

I am not sure how server side limits would fix this through, as you would just be artificially limiting the bandwidth even lower.  Or if you want to limit the bandwidth so more users can share the feed, I'm not sure why you would want to hang multiple users form the slow servers when you already have a fast one at your disposal.

If that is the case, then this is a dup request anyway - so maybe I'm guessing wrong too.

These servers have different content and not always available. I don’t want to set the bandwidth each time I change a server. By using functions as average and median the server could be coded to know how much bandwidth it has available and this info could be used to choose the proper bandwidth.

Load balancing is something to request in 2014.

Ok, make sense, but also makes it a duplicate request, so best vote here -> http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/80857-server-side-speed-limitscaps-for-sharedsubscribed-users/
