Age old question…I know…but I have PMS on an unraid server. I have plex on all my computers, mobile devices, tablets, roku XD, apple tv. My movies are all full blu-ray rips using makemkv. My computers can play the movies fine, but my mobile devices/tablets/roku/apple devices wont. Which universal container/audio/video format would work best for all of them without compromising quality?

The most compatible container for mobile devices or Plex Clients in general is the mp4 container (with h.264 video and AAC stereo audio).
BUT: mp4 cannot store DTS audio, nor picture-based subtitles.
So if you’re after the highest possible quality for your Home cinema, stay with the mkv container, but create optimized versions of your files for your mobile clients (needs additional storage space).
