Aren’t you being over critical of an inability to play 7.1 FLAC? It’s a bizarre idea to rip a compressed 7.1 audio track on a Blu-ray to a lossless format with a larger file size. Why not just use a 1:1 of the original DTS or whatever track?
Perhaps, it was just the two test files that I had recently obtained. I am pretty sure it works in RasPlex as well, but I will reverify this evening. I was not targeting any specific format in the two test files that were picked, they were picked because they were large and I suspected if something would cause a problem, the might. In all, if the lack of FLAC is the only issue, I may well be able to work around that with a few conversions as needed, but it was not the only issue.

If it’s any help you can add most of the channels you just mentioned plus a lot more directly in Plex via Channels and they would be available on the Shield TV via Plex.
I had not considered this option, let me play around with it this evening and see how the results of that come out.

Initial testing seems to show this works well for most channels, though a couple observations on the Shield is that in the Tile format the Shield uses to display the shows in the add-ons seems to truncate the names pretty badly and not show the Season/Episode like the web version of Plex does while looking at add-ons (More testing to come on this). Also, I was psuedo cheating a bit before in the Roku version as while I was cutting the cable, my parents were not, so I was making a second account under their cable account to allow me to login to many of the TV Apps and get their expanded show list and often live streams, it does not seem that is possible in the Plex Add-On versions, though not the end of the world.
It is also possible that a great deal of what the family might be looking for in such apps would be easily found in the likes of Hulu, Netfilx, and Amazon Video, though I have not gone digging for every show. It is certainly also possible to obtain shows to place them directly in Plex in many circumstances but again, I am trying to keep it simple for the non-technical ones in the household.
I will continue to update as I test more things out. These responses are not meant to be complaints, though I greatly welcome the feedback and ideas. I am documenting this more to help anyone else who may come along in the future with a similar question.
