Good plex media player, ps4 pro?

Hello, i have a plex media server which i stream content from. Usually use my 2015 Samsung TV with orca’s app, it works fine, but has some bugs, and Also lacks a bit on the design, the resoulution is kinda bad in the app.

Currently i an looking at the ps4 pro, its a bit expensive, but if can handle plex good aswell as good codec support and SRT files.

Really wanna play last of us in hdr aswell as the crash bandicot remake, but i need a another good reason to buy the ps4 pro, so if the plex support is good, i will probebly buy it. But last of us and crash bandicot is still not a good enough reason to spenn 350$

PlayStation does not have a good history as Plex player. Have you considered NVidia shield.

Roku is one of the most feature rich.

Read a bit about it. But does it output HDR? Also i am having a hard time finding it in any stores in norway. I Also have a Samsung home theatre connected to the TV through arc, so a plex player that support most sound formats is Also preferable. I am Also Thinking about waiting for the 2017 Samsung uhd blu ray player, hopefully They put the same tizen on it as the tizen the 2016 TV modells are running. Because the unit they came with this year is running 2015 hardware.

Shield does hdr. Also, it is one of the few (the only??) box outside a htpc that will do HD Audio as well.

This is an excellent way to retrofit or update a Plex client, which does 4K, HEVC and the most important HD surround audio codecs.
Drawback: it does only Plex, not other video portals and services.

or a NUC, not sure if it does 7.1 Audio pass through, but it should run the plex server and PMP just fine.

well plex is the only thing i will be using, the lack of audio and video quality on streaming sites is just awful. Also i do have a decent app store on my 2015 tizen TV, but as mentioned before the plex app is good enough, but it lacks a good amount on the design front, but i am not sure if orca can do anything about it unfortunately.

The only negative side with the roku 4 was the price, a bit expensive plex streamer, but you get what you pay.

but it lacks a good amount on the design front,

How the above mentioned solution looks like, you can see for yourself by installing OpenPHT onto your computer.
Don’t forget to check out the 2 other embedded skins on offer!

well if thats an OS you install, i will have to pass. I am going to move the server now to a different room in the house. So stretching a 20m long cdmi cable would be too much.

No. OpenPHT for the computer is an ordinary program.
And I wasn’t suggesting to use it with your tv screen but just to see how the user interface looks like, just in case you don’t know it yet.

On the Odroid C2 and the Raspberry Pi 3 it is a complete OS though (you don’t want to muck about with Linux, do you?)

Also i searched for Roku 4 on eBay, and the price was really good, but is it all scam? What is the average price on a Roku 4?

also how is the support for SRT files and video codecs in general, i mostly have mkv,avi and a small amount of mp4. And how is the roku in use in plex? is it fast and uses a modern design?

worth it? Free shipping as well so its the cheapest.

I use ATV4 which supports HDMI CEC not sure what level of audio but works well with my Pioneer VX-527 but doesn’t do 4k AFAIK.

The Roku 4 has been superseded as Roku launched a whole bunch of new models in the US. The new top of the range is the Roku Ultra. If 4K is not a requirement then any of the Roku models will work well. I have a Roku Ultra & a Roku 3 & TBH apart from 4K there is little difference in performance. I also have a Roku Streaming Stick that was just on special offer at Amazon UK for £18.99 & that plays all the HD material that the other Roku devices do but is just a little slower through the menus & WiFi only but is a helluva bargain.

i was about to order it, but when i started googling some reviews, i found out there was a roku named ultra swell, which will fit my needs better. See if i can try and get one. I do have a 4k HDR tv, so i want to go with the ultra

this made me cry about roku… Who the hell uses 10/100 in 2016, 10gbit are soon becoming a standard. And they pull this off… That is just hilarious to be honest. Neither do i have a AC router.
