Best Streaming device

Hello All,

I’m sure the question has been asked 1000 times before but I’m trying to do as much research as possible. is the NVIDIA Shield TV the best streaming device for an on prem Plex Server.

Many Thanks,

The Shield is the only off the shelf device supporting passthrough of TrueHD, TrueHD + Atmos, dts-HD MA, and dts:X audio. If those audio formats are important to you then buy a Shield.

The 2019 Shields added support for Dolby Vision. The 2015/2017 models are HDR10 only.

If you do buy a 2019 Shield, suggest you purchase the Pro model. There are several threads with people reporting trouble with the tube version.

yes.

it it perfect? no.

if you are wanting to use the shield as a server, it can do so, however be aware of its limitations.

if you mean connect to another local server (using shield as a client only), then you can ignore the plex server functionality on the shield entirely.
