Best style of server

Hi everyone my Plex server is currently an iMac 21.5 inches 2017. 2.3 GHZ I5 and 8GB of ram, with a 1TB USB 3.0 Disk for my media

Seems to run well. But I need to upgrade my 1TB really soon, and I wanna start playing media more often when I’m out of the house. I’m also a Plex pass user.

My question is simple. What is the best way to host Plex server

Is my MAC fine and I can just buy a bigger HDD or more USB disk?
Should I invest into a NAS that can support Plex?
OR you have an other idea?

Thanks

Intel NUC with Gemini Lake processor is a good starting point.

I’ve always supported a separation of church and state. Keep your Mac, and possibly invest in a low end NAS for file storage only. If you don’t use the NAS to run Plex, you can aim at one with way less horsepower and save $$$. This also gives you the ability to upgrade components as necessary without having to invest in a whole new unit every time.

Just my thoughts.
