Buffalo Linkstation LS220

Hi everyone,

I know currently there isn’t anyway to use the above NAS natively and the 3rd party option (link below) also doesn’t work.

Is there a relatively simple way around this. For example is there a simple way to put FreeBSD on there or maybe Ubuntu?

I am kinda disappointed that such a well known storage company isn’t compatible, but that’s life.

Any advice on work arounds would be greatly appreciated.

I’m an IT Engineer by trade but only just dipping my toes into the world of networking etc.

I own 4 of those (LS-220) and I have to tell you, I can’t even imagine those are powerful enough to do anything other than being a simple NAS. They’re great at doing that but that is all.

Most peoples’ phones are far more-powerful that the typical consumer off-the-shelf NAS appliance. You either need to build your own NAS with actual horsepower, or run PMS on a separate box.

So in the end I return it for a QNAP 251 and it seems to run fine, just need to upgrade the RAM so it can upload new films and stream without juddering
