Buffering 4K HDR Content / Direct play

Hi there,

i have a strange issue with my Plex Docker Container. Running on unraid 6.12.10

My Hardware:

AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 5650G with Radeon Graphics @ 3900 MHz

32GB ECC Ram

1Gig Network connection

My CPU idles most of the time.

I have a few huge 4k HDR Videos (each Film ~60GB) If i want to DIRECT play, without any transcoding, my Client buffers every ~10seconds.

As Client i tried a Amazon 4k Stick, Nvidia Shield Pro (LAN + WLAN), also native Plex App on my LG TV.

For testing purposes i installed a jellyfin server which points to the same videos, and there is no buffering or any other issue.

No special Container config, only added the GPU with “/dev/dri”

Does anyone have a similar issue and can help me out of the buffering hell??!

Are you wired or wireless on your client connectivity? Until I upgraded my wireless access points that now support 6E (my Shield TV connects at WiFi 5 speeds…I guess until an update brings it up to 6–no 6GHz radio so I don’t expect 6E), WiFi was not good. I ended up getting a NVDIA Shield ProTV because my living room TV only had a 10/100MB wired network and the Shield has a 10/100/1000MB. I found that my highest resolution file was Gemini Man (which is what I use now to test clients) was pulling a 145MB/s stream at 4K HDR. Don’t get me wrong, it looks awesome but that seems to be the upper number as far as streaming speeds for what I have as far as my 4K content so whatever I use to connect has to perform at a minimum of that speed. My older WiFi could not do it and neither did any of my TVs with 10/100MB network cards on them…come on, TV manufacturers, step it up.

i tried it with a lan connection and also wlan ,but it doesnt work.

BUT i think after using tautulli and the plex console i found the solution.

My Clients tried to connect over WAN instead of LAN, and my WAN connection has only 40Mbit/s upload…

i had to play with several settings on my router, dns rebind disable NAT for plex… and now it works
