Buffering issues

Hello all,

I am looking for some help with getting my Plex media server up and running to snuff. Whenever I try to watch a show or movie from Plex I have buffering issues or sometimes the video will not play at all. I try to stream to my tablet and smart TV over WiFi inside my home.

My setup:
I have up to 1 gig download and 50 Mbps upload. I use my ISP’s modem but have my Netgear night hawk router connected to the modem. Then I have a power line converter that I use to hardwire into my PC in another room.

PC Specs:
Intel core i7-2700k
16 GB DDR3 ram
GTX 1060 6GB graphics card
2 TB internet Western digital res hard drive

a couple suggestions: have you checked that Ethernet over Powerline connection? It could be weak or cutting out, not providing enough bandwidth. Also, got some spare drives laying around? For me, having an OS, Media & spare drive for transcoding eased some of the issues I was seeing. Are you using a WD Red drive? Is it in a RAID config? If that Red drive is only by itself or not setup as a RAID I strongly recommend using another drive. They are not bad drives, however the firmware is tuned for it to be part of a RAID & when it’s not, you might see odd data issues because a lot of functions which would be part of the firmware for a WD Blue or Black, for example, are removed.

When I run a random speed test I get around 30-40 mbps upload and haven’t seen much fluctuating unless it is happening when I am not testing. Do you know of a program that would monitor this throughout the day?

At this time, I only have the WD Red. I am trying to get a Seagate 8tb external hard drive and turn it into an internal hard drive.

I only have 1 WD Red drive in my system at this time.
