Buffering mkv files

I have dual Xeon E5-2690 v4 CPUs (all cores and CPUs available to Plex) and 128GB RAM (Plex will run with only 32GB), running on Proxmox and TrueNAS and mkv files keep buffering every 5sec. What am I missing?

Hard to tell as the container (MKV) isn’t usually what’s causing trouble.
The dashboard’s “Now Playing” tile should give you an indication what’s going on – e.g. if the media is streaming local/remote/indirect, if video/audio/subtitles are being transcoded…

Depending on the file’s average/max bitrate, there might also be a network issue (if you’re streaming high-bitrate 4K media, that’ll easily go beyond what some devices can deal with, e.g. some smart TVs come with only a 100 Mbps LAN port); there’s also an scenario where you’re streaming via wireless network and just don’t get the necessary bandwidth (lots of things can impact a WLAN performance, ranging from walls/furniture to “competing” WLAN signals on the same bands).

I’m playing 1080p movie and I’m on a wired gigabit connection and I don’t have issues with mp4 files.
It shows it is transcoding video

The stream is listed as remote, implying there might be some glitch in your home network setup. If Plex considers a stream to be „remote“, it’ll apply restrictions which can cause transcoding.

The required bandwidth is listed as „10 Gbps“, implying the media wasn’t analyzed properly…
This might be contributing to why the media is stuttering.
