I have a strange issue, regarding the Background playback.
I really like to listen to movies while working, but I don’t necessarily want to have my phone screen on all the time, to save some battery. So. I usually just start the movie, put screen to sleep and listen to the movie.
So far so good. But recently I was offline for a while, and tried to do the same with a downloaded one. This time it starts just fine, but after approximately 20 seconds the playback stops. I cannot resume it, and when I open the app again to resume it just spins till eternity.
Hope you guys can sort out the root cause of the problem and fix it in a future update.
I have the exact same issue. I download podcast videos to listen to offline (checking the video sometimes but usually just the audio). When streaming from my Plex server it works fine. When watching a “downloaded” video it freezes after 20 seconds, spinning forever. Stop and start fixes it temporarily. I’m on iOS 26.5 and plex client 2026.10.0 (1743), lifetime Plex Pass. Would love to see this fixed.
edit: I’ve tried disabling all the “wake” settings (tap to wake, raise to wake, motion to wake). I also confirmed latest version, not in “low power” mode, and that lock screen pause-play controls work up until that 20 second mark. The one thing that seems to work is if I lock the phone and set it down face-up… but if I flip it over, or put it in my pocket, then it will freeze after 20 seconds. So it could be related to the iOS proximity sensor.
