[Bug] Photos sorted by name are incorrectly sorted

THIS IS SO INFURIATING

Can’t sort by name ,can’t play Gif. They just doesn’t care.

I’ve seen .gif work on some smart TV’s, the fact they wont support it in the browser of all things is insane.

COME ON!!! Sorting by name is the most basic thing you can do. What the … is wrong with you people? It’s 2018 and this still doesn’t work as any sane person would expect it to work.

Oh gosh, so sorry to have missed this!

Yes, this is clearly a bug. We’ll raise the issue and get it sorted. Sorry I missed this post for so long.

Look forward to the fix - been an issues for a long time.

I hope this this thread is still being monitored by Plex staff, and would draw your attention to another long standing basic issue - the List/Grid View issue, when trying to navigate down a hierarchy of folders.
After initially having the facility to select List View, in order to see long file names, the user then has Grid View imposed at the next level down so that file names are severely truncated, which makes it impossible to identify a file. The List View option should be there at every level.

PLEASE say that this has been taken on board and will be dealt with !. PLEASE. !

That seems to be a bigger problem. Can anyone say anything about the state of things?

We are aware of this issue, but there is a tradeoff to be had there. Browsing to a photo folder shows an optional header/background and has a (nicer?) mosaic layout. We’d like to work out a way of getting the best in both views when adding sort, so we don’t take anything away.

(Which is a long winded way of saying, it has been taken on board. Thanks!)

When will this be solved? Wife complaining she cannot show photos to mother-in-law … !

The ordering bug was found and squashed, and the fix is getting tested now. It will roll out in a future (but probably not ‘next’) release of PMS.

You say PMS.
If this is fixed, will the Name Sort option on Plex for Android then work ?

I believe so, yup. My understanding is that it was a server oversight which affects all clients.

Hi Dom
Thanks for swift reply - look forward to the fix.

Whilst I have someone’s attention, may I remind you about anther long-standing problem with List/Grid View when trying to navigate down a tree of folders containing videos, music etc. This is regularly raised in other threads but I have not yet seen any acknowledgement of this.
To recap, the problem is that List View is needed for files with reasonably long filename but the user, after choosing List View, is forced to Grid View after navigating down one level and it is then impossibly to distinguish between files which have a filename in which the first few characters are the same, since the filename is severely truncated
The List/Grid View option is really needed at each level or at least a continuation of the initial choice of List View.
Hope that you can get accepted as a bug and get it fixed.

Regards Phil

No problem at all. I tried to answer that concern here - http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1624754/#Comment_1624754

I’d hope we can improve it in future, and we are actively discussing how.

Thanks. My apologies for not reading that properly.
So, look forward to that fix too in due course.

Hallelujah! The bug is corrected in the last server update, 1.12.1.4885

Great! So, “If once you try and don’t succeed, try, try and try again”
Look forward now to a resolution of another long-standing problem:
Retaining List-View, when navigating down an hierarchy of Folders in a Library.

Hi all, is it just me or is this ‘bug’ back again after just a few new releases of PMS. I’m running PMS on my QNAP and the sorting by ‘date taken’ option is not working anymore for a while now.

For sure it has been working for some time after the update mentioned above. How is it possible that the sorting option is broken again? When I sort by ‘date taken’ Plex sorts my pictures by file name instead. Very unworkable for me since I have folders/albums with pics of my camera and my phone together, using the date take option is key to sort these correctly and view them chronological. Hope it is some setting at my side but I’m afraid not.

Keen to hear if there are more people experiencing this and if it can be fixed somehow.

Its been almost a year and I still cant sort my photos by file name. THIS IS SO INFURIATING!!

I’m as frustrated as everyone else on this thread and I’m going to cancel my Plex Pass until it is resolved.
