[BUG] Problem with (E-)AC3 Codec and Windows update 24H2

This is a client issue, it’s only needed on the client side.
I don’t know about the HTPC version, I don’t use it. If you find an mpv.dll file in the folder, it will most likely work as well.

Edit : I just installed the HTPC version, it has the mpv-2.dll file with it, I didn’t test it but replacing it with the right one will most likely fix it.

Due to licensing restrictions, it’s difficult for Plex to update the mpv.dll to an upstream one.
So updating it manually is the only solution for now.

If you want newer mpv builds that work with Plex you can download them here =>

I’m failing to see how this is my problem here, it is their product and people are paying for it.

On top of that, nothing stops them from telling us they’re looking for a solution, or they’re working on it. They’ve been dead silent.

It’s October, 24H2 is now officially out (and installed officially on my pc, and god knows who else’s), and after 3 months, its still not fixed?

No, it is stll not fixed, and now the OS version is getting officially released.
I have tried to help but without any success.
It seems like they don’t care at all.

thats the point i was making, it isnt fixed. im on 24h2, and initially, no audio. i have to use that workaround to get it working.

Tell you what, as your team have not been too concerned with this bug for the last 3 months or so, ill hock this out to the tech media, see if they are interested in a story that ties the release of windows 24h2, to the staffers at plex releasing multiple incompatible desktop players, see if that will get them interested.

Thanks for this information, solved my problem with eac3 not playing on a fresh 24h2 win11 install, when other audio formats could play no problem.

Wish I didn’t have to fiddle around for an hour to fix a problem that the plex team should fix.

Don’t forget to tell them they’re more interested by ads working than the product actually functioning

I’ve done what I could to debug it and found a work-around, I don’t think this is something I can fix myself, that’s why I’m posting here, since this is probably something that will hit a lot of people when the 24H2 update will start to spread.

I guess it’s happening.

They really have lost their focus. When i signed up for lifetime plex pass, it was all about the product, and improving it for those who payed for a plex pass. now, they just want to sell ads. They have my money, but I’m wondering if I look at jellyfin, and abandon plex. They have abandon us windows users. Maybe the plex project is doomed?

I just setup Win11 24H2 on a new miniPC and hit this problem. It’s unbelievable that Plex haven’t fixed this since it was originally reported 4+ months ago. Thanks Shun_lya for figuring it out.

Also here after installing 24H2 in the last couple of days. I don’t want to put in the work to verify the updated DLL is legitimate, so I’m just converting any incoming EAC3 to FLAC for now…

Not a slight on the user who put in the work to figure out the DLL solution btw, thanks for tracking it down. Plex shouldn’t be dumping swapping DLLs off onto users.

Just for clarification, the DLL I linked isn’t a modification from me, but an update of the official mpv project, but you do you.

That’s the part I was too lazy to verify. Making sure it’s official etc. etc. And then every single 24H2 user is stuck having to check for themselves since they don’t seem to be fixing it.

any reply from offical?

I wish but no

This solved the problem for me as well.

Adding this for everyone who does the dll replacement :

If you don’t want to do that again everytime there is a plex update (of course it won’t be to fix that problem), right click on the .dll, properties, and put it it read only. Plex installer won’t be able to replace the dll.

I added this on my initial workaround post as well.
I still hope that plex team will fix the issue, this is unbelievable.
