This is a client issue, it’s only needed on the client side.
I don’t know about the HTPC version, I don’t use it. If you find an mpv.dll file in the folder, it will most likely work as well.
Edit : I just installed the HTPC version, it has the mpv-2.dll file with it, I didn’t test it but replacing it with the right one will most likely fix it.
No, it is stll not fixed, and now the OS version is getting officially released.
I have tried to help but without any success.
It seems like they don’t care at all.
Tell you what, as your team have not been too concerned with this bug for the last 3 months or so, ill hock this out to the tech media, see if they are interested in a story that ties the release of windows 24h2, to the staffers at plex releasing multiple incompatible desktop players, see if that will get them interested.
I’ve done what I could to debug it and found a work-around, I don’t think this is something I can fix myself, that’s why I’m posting here, since this is probably something that will hit a lot of people when the 24H2 update will start to spread.
They really have lost their focus. When i signed up for lifetime plex pass, it was all about the product, and improving it for those who payed for a plex pass. now, they just want to sell ads. They have my money, but I’m wondering if I look at jellyfin, and abandon plex. They have abandon us windows users. Maybe the plex project is doomed?
I just setup Win11 24H2 on a new miniPC and hit this problem. It’s unbelievable that Plex haven’t fixed this since it was originally reported 4+ months ago. Thanks Shun_lya for figuring it out.
Also here after installing 24H2 in the last couple of days. I don’t want to put in the work to verify the updated DLL is legitimate, so I’m just converting any incoming EAC3 to FLAC for now…
Not a slight on the user who put in the work to figure out the DLL solution btw, thanks for tracking it down. Plex shouldn’t be dumping swapping DLLs off onto users.
That’s the part I was too lazy to verify. Making sure it’s official etc. etc. And then every single 24H2 user is stuck having to check for themselves since they don’t seem to be fixing it.
Adding this for everyone who does the dll replacement :
If you don’t want to do that again everytime there is a plex update (of course it won’t be to fix that problem), right click on the .dll, properties, and put it it read only. Plex installer won’t be able to replace the dll.
I added this on my initial workaround post as well.
I still hope that plex team will fix the issue, this is unbelievable.
