Building a new windows server: best cpu/gpu?

Server Version#: latest on windows
Player Version#: latest everywhere

I would really like to know what the ideal intel cpu is for plex server, averaging zero to three simultaneous users, transcoding, etc. And do I need an additional GPU for it be great and if so, what GPU would be good? Looking to get premium here, not looking to build a budget pc (unless that’s stupid)

You don’t really need a powerhouse computer for a server. If you’re going to be encoding videos in the background or using it for gaming, then maybe spend a little more

I run my server off a i7-2600 with no GPU and it works fine even for all my 4k stuff because I don’t need transcoding

I run a 2nd server off a NAS with an Intel Celeron J4105

Any late model i5 or higher with Quick Sync will work fine for most people 12th and 13th gen have support for AV1 but it sounds like you’re not aiming for something older anyway

Do you need a GPU? That’s specific to each person and their setup/use case

What are your internet speeds
What kind of clients will be used
What kind of media will you be playing including hdr and subtitle format ect…

It’s nice to have some backup when it comes to transcoding but I wouldn’t run out and buy a new RTX 4090

This chart will give you some idea of what different Nvidia cards are capable of
