So I’ve many movies that have foreign speaking parts usually I hard code them but I find I lose picture quality , I tried to force subtitles for foreign parts only it works perfectly on movies , but of course it works on my TV shows now even tho I don’t want it to is there a way to only have them work in movies ?
Plex is usually (in my experience) smart enough to turn on forced subtitles (it’s a flag set in the Matroska container format). If you turn subtitles on by default for everything, though, you’re bypassing this functionality.
What’s the best settings for it to play forced subs only ? My setup ive only got forced subs for movies with foreign language parts works perfectly since I turned it on , but now it plays subtitles for TV shows that have subtitles that are not forced
Hmm…dunno about TV shows, sorry. The only TV shows I watch with subs are entirely foreign language
I think it might be best to hardcode the subtitle

The 2nd picture is exactly what you want to setup the “perfect” subtitle experience. This will also work for tv shows. Just flag your MKV subtitle tracks correct and you will have no issues.
So it will only play force subs if I name them correctly ?
Yes. You are correct. Plex will play the forced subs if all your settings are right.
Just be sure to flag the tracks right. Take a look here. The two example pictures use the same program(MKVToolNix). So, should get you started.

AND, the best part is they DON’T have to be mkv files or embedded into them. If you have LMA enabled you can “side-load” the sub’s. Be sure to name them correctly.
Example,
Game of Thrones (2011) - s01e01 - Winter is Coming.avi
Game of Thrones (2011) - s01e01 - Winter is Coming.eng.forced.srt
