Bypassing an IP block on Plex Media Server (Enabling Direct Playback)

I recently purchased a new server as part of an upgrade however the subnet it belongs to has a bad reputation; bad enough to be blocked by some ISPs which isn’t ideal. The server is powerful enough to transcode for the plex relay however I would like to create my own relay to remove the bandwidth limitation.

I have been trying reverse proxy solutions, implementing custom domains and dns records however I can’t change the public IP that plex.tv sends to remote clients (shared library) for direct connection playback.

Go into Server settings - Network - Show Advanced.

Here you can tell Plex.tv the access URL (IP/FQDN) to use with clients.

If you still have a problem, consider adding a fully-encapsulating (important) VPN with PMS always (re)starting AFTER the VPN is established.

Reverse proxy should work - you enter the URL to the reverse proxy in Settings - Network - Custom Server URL (for example, https://plex.yourdomain.com:443), that URL gets communicated to the clients when they log on to Plex.

I’ve configured this with Apache. I can access the PMS-website this way, but still get stuck with remote access. I’ve configured this for port 80, as I’ve no services running there, but I’d prefer it running over 443 completely.

Can you point me to a config that is valid for the whole communication including remote access?
