Can Jasper Lake N6005 use hardware transcoding?

Ubuntu 22.04 with the 5.18.0 kernel manual upgrade (previously the default kernel 5.15.0) and PMS preview version 1.29.2 fixed the HW transcoding issues I had with my Celeron N5105. Thanks for sharing your observations, it helped me fix my issue.

Can you share what the performance of your N5105 is like when it comes to hw transcoding? Is 4K HDR with tone mapping to 1080p SDR possible? Would be interested in subtitles also.

All of this is with hardware acceleration, obviously.

I have a NUC11ATKC4 with a Celeron N5105 that can handle 3x 4k HDR to 1080p transcodes at once with the HDR Tone Mapping feature being used. I had to jump through some hoops to get it working on Ubuntu 22.04, but once it got going it’s been fantastic. It almost did 4x at once. That 4th introduced occasional buffering as if it’s handling 95% of the load that 4th one added but not quite getting all the way there.

Subtitle burning is a whole other thing. It can do 4x 1080p to 1080p transcodes at once with subs being burned. With subs not being burned, it’ll do 8x 1080p transcodes at once.

4k transcoding with sub burn is a mess, which is generally true across any server and not just one with an N5105. It cannot do 1x 4k to 1080p transcode with sub burn underway. It will do 10 seconds of playback or so, then freeze for even longer before spitting out another few seconds of playback and freezing again.

Passing massive uncompressed 4k frames back and forth between iGPU and CPU is a tall order!

Thank you for sharing your impressions, very interesting!

Anyone know what the Windows equivalent to this would be?
