Can Plex ignore .lrc files using .plexignore?

I know this sounds weird, but let me explain.

I’m using Synology’s audio station because it displays the lyrics in the mobile app. It reads lrc files fine. However, almost all of my lrc files are untimed. I can’t get any of the lyrics to display in plex, even though the icon appears in the browser and in the Roku app. When I replace the lrc files with txt files they show up fine in Plex, but no longer show in the Synology app. So I want to be able to have 2 files: one untimed lrc and one txt.

I can get Synology to ignore the txt file but I can’t get plex to ignore the lrc file. I’ve even tried using the .plexignore file but that doesn’t work either. Once the new plexamp app starts displaying lyrics then I can say goodbye to the DS audio app, but until then I have to use both.

This is complete speculation, but I wonder if Plex, seeing the .lrc extension, is looking for time signatures in the file and, seeing none, considers the file invalid. I’ve never seen .lrc files without timing.

Ok, so I disabled Lyricfind and still have the same issue after doing the plex dance.

In the browser, I was able to see a 1 of 2 for the lyrics view, but the first one kept showing the spinning wheel while the 2nd view was the txt file view.

Also, I took an lrc file and added a timestamp on one of the lines and that line appeared in the lyrics in the Plex app.

For what it’s worth, Plexamp 3.0.x will display lyrics:

To do so, click the track name and select Show Lyrics from the list:

I changed the extension of a lyric .txt file to .lrc and saw the same thing you did. When Plex tried to show the lyrics, it just displayed the spinner.

This, and your other tests, support my speculation. I really think Plex is looking for times in a .lrc file.

Oh wow, thanks for the heads up. I didn’t know it did that yet. I checked it out and it displays lyrics from tracks that only have 1 of the files (txt). I’ll have to find an lrc file that has timestamps and test that one too.

Yeah, I just didn’t want to have to go back and add timestamps to 20k+ tracks.

Since the new app shows lyrics, I’ll have to do some more tests to see if I can retire the other app.
