Cannot connect to plex server in same LAN

Server Version#: 1.40.2.8395
Player Version#: latest from app store.

If i open the plex app on my ipad the first time it will tell me it found a server called plexlocal. But from that point on it will not connect to it. I cannot see local hosted content. In the settings I can see plexlocal is offline but I can reach it by using the webbrowser using the same ipad.

Also my TV’s app works just fine and I can reac hte webservice from my PC as well.

You appear to be using docker do you have it set to use host networking?

I do not. As it is recommended to not be enabled by the TrueNAS UI.

edit:
Also my TV works just fine and any webbrowsers in this network do as well.

I tried enabling it and then it DOES work. Though right now I am unsure if I should keep it enabled or find the underlying issue why it is not working. Or is there an issue even?

If it isn’t using host networking then it will be considered to be on another network and therefore act like it is remote.

I’m willing to bet there is some DNS and/or security certificate issue because of it. You can use the bridge mode but it causes more problems to work around like you are finding.

Would you have any suggestion as to where I could start searching how to get it to work in bridge mode?

Untill I can get it to work I can just use it with host network

generally bridge mode would cause essentially a double nat requiring port mapping.

I am curious why the Truenas inteface is telling you to use bridge. i suppose it being essentially behind another router make some security by way of obscurity but seems overkill

i’m not suggesting this is the best source but may give an idea. jenkins - docker networking - host mode vs bridge mode - port mapping - Stack Overflow

Thank you.
