Cannot open MP4 file in MP3Tag

I am trying to update all my files–both audio FLACs and video MP4s–with the proper TAG information. I have several thousand MP4s that are segments from video courses. Each segment is an MP4 file. I am able to change the tag information, including Disc # and Track #, on 99% of them. However, there are about 35 of them that do not allow me to change the tag information. The tag editor (MP3Tag) changes all the others, but reports that it cannot open these. I am tapped out on my attempts to fix this problem. I cannot replace them, but perhaps someone will advise me how to “recreate” new MP4s with the video content that resides in these, apparently somehow corrupted, files.

The files seem to function properly, I just cannot change the tag data. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might fix this problem?

Please advise.

I think your question rather belongs in here: https://community.mp3tag.de/

But if I had to take a guess, I’d say these files are still encumbered with DRM.

Thank you for your thoughts. I have over 2,500 MP4 video files from perhaps as many as 100 different courses. Most courses have no files that won’t cooperate. Some courses have 2 or three. They are so few and so randomly spread throughout that it makes me doubt the DRM thing.

I am wondering whether I can drop them into a video app as content, then create a new MP4 file that would not have the same problem.

Any additional thoughts are of interest.

Yes, try remuxing them. AVIdemux for instance.
Or MKVtoolnix (although the output won’t be mp4 anymore with this. But still worth a try.)

Handbrake can convert/reprocess MP4s.
