Can't view certain artists in Plex Desktop

When trying to access albums from many of the artists on my server, I get the following error:

“Something went wrong. An unexpected error occured”.

I can only see the artist background wallpaper, if one was set. None of the albums, or metadata appear. It’s essentially a blank page.

I’m going through each artist one by one to see which ones are affected, and it looks like about 5-10% don’t work correctly.

If I use Plexamp (desktop or mobile) or the android Plex client and try to view the same problematic artists, I don’t have an issue. This only happens on my Windows 10 machines running Plex for Windows.

I’ve uninstalled everything Plex, removed all entries in AppData, reinstalled it and the problem persists. This is happening on both systems I have running Windows 10.

I can’t recall when this started happening exactly, but it’s been a few weeks now and it’s driving me nuts.

I’d try removing one of the artists’ files, scanning and emptying the trash, and then add back the albums one at a time to see when the problem reappears, and how.

Thanks for the link. I looked before posting but saw nothing that jumped out at me as being the same issue.

I’ll wait for a fix to be released.

I tried that previously but with mixed results. Worked for one artist, but not others.

Does disabling “group albums by type” (mentioned later in that thread) fix it? If so, that would confirm it’s the same issue.

I can confirm that the affected artists only have compilation albums. I don’t want to disable the grouping and mess it up further. I have lots of various singles, ep’s, live albums, etc.

It’s purely a visual setting AFAIK. You can re-enable it at any time and albums will be grouped again. If you mainly use other clients maybe it’s not worth it to disable it, but if you use the web/desktop app often, being able to navigate to all artists but having all albums grouped into a single entry seems preferable to not being able to browse 5-10% of your artists.

I am having this same problem. It doesn’t error out for looking at the artist in Plexamp or a localhost instance of Plex/Web on my server – but if I use the remote app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/ version of Plex/Web I am experiencing this issue. At first I thought it was because I had a compilation album that did not match the Studio that was producing it so I moved the albums to Various Artists, but I just added André Visior.

I am also noticing that every few days my Plex Server is dropping from running and I have to remote into my server to start up the server again.
