Clean way to reset preferences to default or specific value

Just wanted to know if it is possible or frowned upon.

Simple option, do not want to clear out all the preferences of all the other channels.

Thank you for your reply! I noticed in the method you mentioned in the thread I referred to for the url workaround was using http, I presume this will not hold up when the user uses “secured connections” which would require https?
