And allow Sort Title to apply in the collection. I have Gangster Movies, for instance, with a bunch in it. I want The Godfather 1,2,3 to be side by side.
It already does when viewed alphabetically. Sorry if i am misunderstanding.
I changed the sort title of Alien to Balien so it shows up third
sort titles does work, I use that to make the star wars movies sort by logical order (not release or alpha).
I have Sort Title Applied, but yet…:
Question:
Does Sort Title have to be applied before the collection is made?
I’m in the process of consolidating a bunch of libraries (for rather obvious reasons [UNO]) Sort Title was probably hosed when the Gangsta Library was tossed in with Sets-Genre.
I’ll have to recreate Gangsta Collection after resetting Sort Title - and basically answer my own question in a minute… or two…
the first image, double check your COLLECTION title sort field (edit the collection not the movies), I can make my starwars collection first by putting a 1starwars in the collection sort name.

Your second image appears to be sorted by release

edit:
@JuiceWSA btw I admire your organizing dedication, that is above and beyond cool.
I moved this to a new topic because the feature request it was in was really about asking to have reverse release date as an option.
you should not have to. I edited mine that already existed just now to test and updated fine
Super, you want to move the resolution image over here where it’ll make sense or shall I post it again?
When I was forced to start consolidating my existing Genre Libraries (no 'actor search across libraries, UNO Sidebar pain and suffering) I had to do something to maintain those genre separations.
Dam Users are always coming up with work-arounds, ain’t they?
Just wait until I move Sci-Fi Vintage (357) into Sci-Fi Movies and make it a collection… oh the fun I’m about to have… (cough… gkak - that’ll probably take a day - or two)
Ugh yeah one of a few (or many depending who you ask) really aggravating plexisms.
the resolution image? Not sure what you mean. i moved all the posts from the other but the top three about the reverse order the other user was talking about. I don’t see anything else in it
It’s there… I didn’t see it at first, but the last few minutes have been ‘busy’…
thx
BTW: to bolster support for ‘the other thread’:
Alphabetical works fine for this collection, but my ‘Bond, James Bond’ Library - now a collection - benefits from the release date sort 'cause that’s just how I’d like to see 'em.
It doesn’t take much imagination on my part to foresee a use for reverse ordering because Users (and Kids) will come up with the darndest things.
I want these new Genre Collections to be first so they’re the first thing one sees upon arrival. Gangstas, War and Westerns is the current desired sort order so I just made Gangstas Sort “001” (and so on).
I’m wondering (will find out in a minute - or two) if I can use the old Ctl-Select to pick movies off a page to add to a collection? If that works it’ll be a real time saver when Sci-Fi Movies eats Sci-Fi Vintage.
Answer: Yes.
Ctl/Select ----> Pencil… add to collection.
Excellent… (wrings hands, crazy mad like).
You’ve been following along, I hope. Here’s something your Collection window sorely needs - those quick jump letters down the side 'cause when your Western Collection has 205 movies in it - it’s tedious, man.
You can walk that one down the hall.
357 going in Vintage Sci-Fi, but scratch that… Better split that into Vintage Horror and Vintage Sci-Fi 'cause waiting on that letter stack is going to seem like an eternity - ain’t it?
letter stack on the LEFT PLEASE
To be honest, I don’t think it was meant to be used for huge genre collections like you are using it for, basically wanting a subfolder that behaves like the main library… It was meant for things like the Aliens Collection, Godfather Collection or Star Wars Collection.
Scifi and Horror are genres you can filter by in the library itself that have those. (you can assign your own genre names)
That said, I do personally understand that folks seem to not like filtering. New and casual users may not know where the filter menu is. I have no issue advocating for it and will bring it up regardless. But I make no promises.
I do think you should make another specific feature suggestion for it so I can show the folks who will ultimately decide. I know folks tend to not believe me but we really do read and consider all the suggestions. There are a few I know are in the pipeline folks have been asking for (I can’t say which)
This made me laugh.
I recall when I started looking at Emby a few years ago several other Plex refugees were puzzled by the letter stack being on the left hand side. Someone asked why.
The response was along the lines of " why would you want 6 or 7 rights clicks just to even access it when one down click will suffice" ![]()
on web/touch interfaces, right side is fine and seems normal, but yeah on left/right/up/down remote control navigation, left side baby.
heck, make it work for everyone, put the friggin letter stack on BOTH sides
Well, I have never filtered for a Genre more than about once and here’s why:
Drill, Baby Drill! Really, you guys and your drilling makes my butt ache.
Yes, I could filter for Genre by drilling, I get my list, pick one out of it, then I can drill some more the next time…
or
I could completely abuse Collections, put my Genre Selections together, Sort them right there at the top of the library and there they are right where I need them every time I need them. Boom. One Click. Every Western I got. In the same library. Imagine that.
Regarding Feature Requests - Plex will do this because it’s a good idea, or they won’t. If somebody wants to create that Feature Request I’ll burn a vote on it.
I am now really considering putting all my movies in one library and Collecting Genres. That’ll cure the continuing and annoying inability to search across libraries for actors and everything else Plex can’t do across libraries.
I’m not going to rush into it, but my initial feeling is that had this been available to me when I set those Genre Libraries up in the first place - I might not have.
Besides… if we and Plex live long enough for those next 20 Planet of the Apes/Star Trek/Star Wars movies - ur gonna need that letter stack anyway…
Git R Dun…
lol
What we need, really, is a Genre Container, into which we could put Movies and Collections.
I’m into full-blown work-around mode. The Collection Abuse method above is troublesome for reasons you discover as soon as you start doing it - the big one being at about 150 items it gets tedious without that letter stack. Some features of a library that are not features of Collections will, probably, be needed at some point. It’s just hard to tell right now what they are.
The benefits are obvious, but the shortcomings will really only be realized when put into actual play. Hmmmm… experimenting continues.
Edit:
I’ll mention here that my Recently Added Movies is history and the thumbnail generation as I create this magnum library ranges anywhere from a few to way too many. <— the last time I got mad about that I was banned for a year so I’m chewing on my razor strop and trying to remain calm…
Ooooommmmm…
