Continuous Autoplay

Instead of being able to choose “Continuous Playback” from settings, it should be changed to “Only play 6 episodes” where it only plays 6 episodes at a time if that is what you choose, otherwise the default is set to just play until you stop it, or it runs out of episodes, whichever comes first.

So I know this is, again, a workaround for this problem, but reading through the summary I think it actually could work better for some of the reasons people want this.

I didn’t see any mention of it so I’ll give a rundown of what it is, it’s Your Own TV Channel from your server.
You install it as a separate service, it runs in the background in a docker container, (I’m not sure if there’s a non-Docker version), & runs as a TV channel in Live TV but uses the content you choose from your server as the shows & gives a lot of customizability.

So, for example, you could have it use as source “The Golden Girls” & have it continue directly after the previous episode ends & plays episodes in order & you have a “Golden Girls Channel” that when selected is always showing the show.

You could also set a channel that shows “The Office” every day from 1pm to 8pm, then shows random shows picked from a category you create called “Background Noise” from 8pm to 6am, then is Off Air from 6am to 1pm, then at 1pm it will show the next episode from where you left off with "The Office" the day before.

You can create a channel that shows 2 episode blocks of a bunch of shows you choose but only starts new episodes on the half hour, & fills the time in between with "Commercials" from your “Music Video” library.

You could have a channel that plays Music Videos all day, showing family friendly ones during the day, then at prime time shows teen-oriented dramas, fills the gaps between with your collection of potty humor shorts, then shows adult music videos after 10pm & you’ve essentially built your own MTV.

It works best IMO in conjunction with xTeVe but if you don’t have a Tuner you should be able to use it by itself just fine.

I don’t think this is a replacement for the ability to adjust the timeout, which I actually like most of the time but wish I could disable at times, but I think some of the people here would get a good use out of it. It also is supposed to be compatible with EmWasp & JamFlipper as well

Any update on checking on this feature? It’s been 4 months, and several prompts, and 2 years since you said Plex would look into this feature?

How much time has to pass before a reasonable person can assume there is no intention of fixing this feature that Plex removed?

I would understand if you just openly state that continuous play goes against Plex’s business model of gathering the most accurate user analytics. You would have some angry users, but we would know where you stand and move on.

But to string people along for years, and to give the old, I’ll get back to you on that brush off, is weak leadership.

The fish rots from the head down.

What if the fish has fin rot? hmm? but yes, you’re right in stating that continuous play goes against plex’s business model of gathering data. it is insulting that @elan won’t say they won’t do it. having spent 10 years in software development this is a less than a day’s task to expose these settings.

@hoover900 So just don’t collect the data? I mean this is schoolboy ■■■■ now…

Just add the ■■■■■■■ feature, or fix the areas that implement it like playlists. Right now playlist creation is clunky and hasn’t been developed with usability in mind.

At least they updated their Logo. Goes to show they’re totally listening to our grief with the 2 hour watch cap.

I don’t mind the new logo, but have you noticed that it now takes over twice as long to load up waiting for that logo splash screen. That’s annoying.

Though I don’t think that has any coloration to feature requests. But I expect every other feature request to go into the closet until the Watchlist & Discovery fiasco is over, or at least calmed down. So as long as that stays in “Beta” I think everything else is irrelevant to Plex because that’s where all the publicity is

Well i knew it was too good to be true to find a decent server app, looks like incompitent employees will screw us over to please the minority of people that want a timed feature.

I despise waking up to the screen saver of my chromecast - in the middle of the night when i fall asleep to tv.

3 years of f’ckery… Just shows how stupid the company has become.

Honestly I’m baffled. The stats that this topic has (votes/likes/views etc.), the involvement of @elan and other Plex employees, the amount of comments and we still haven’t had any sort of resolution. No closure. No update. My problem is no longer about this topic, it’s the fact that Plex is seemingly ignoring the people that give them business. I say seemingly because I do not know everything that’s going on and I may be missing the bigger picture that could be the reason this is being delayed/ignored for YEARS.

When I first signed up I felt like I joined a family. Now it feels like the “kids” (Plex users) are fighting with the “parents” (Plex employees) and the parents are just saying the classic, “Because I said so!” and we can’t do anything about it.

I hope we can get a response at the very least, but a resolution to this growing issue could save some family members leaving the nest. Please @elan. Please provide us SOMETHING.

Don’t tag the employees here. You’ll piss them off and you’ll get banned. Clearly, they don’t care.

Thank you Mister White Knight for letting us know.

Wow this topic is long, and the fact that none of us are being listened to by the staff is truly baffling…. Long time PlexPass users - the ones keeping Plex alive, financially - are being told that this stupidly annoying lack of control are wrong and that we will never get that level of control ever.

I mean, I’d love to just have the ability to change the stupidly long 15 second timer to whatever length of time we wanted.

How/why/what could possibly be stopping us having that setting?? Two settings!!

Truly amazed!!! /sarcasm - of course….

I think it’s a safe bet that Plex the company prioritizes user analytics collection over Plex pass user requests. Plex has drifted a long way from it’s user centric roots. IMO Plex pass users are better off giving their money to the Jellyfin development team who actually listens.

On my Roku Ultra, I turn post-play auto-play off because that timer is annoying…Luckily, I can do continuous play with Roku… but I still can’t believe they haven’t fixed this issue with other players. It seems so simple…Maybe it’s not? I don’t know

Thought I’d check in to see if there’s been any development but, to my surprise, there isn’t.

I wish I’d found this thread before I posted a topic about it elsewhere. I used Plex for years without issue. I just installed it again a few days ago, settled down to sleep, woke up through the night to complete silence and darkness. I stopped using Netflix because of this. :slightly_frowning_face:

mdhiggins has made a nice app that allows you skip the up next counter as well as skip the intro on already watched content. not sure if this will bypass the sleep timer when watching a series.

never mind, Plex removed the API that allows this to work in the latest patch.

So here we are. Nearly 4 YEARS LATER, 258 replies, almost 22 thousand views, and no progress. Total silence from Plex. The least they could do is just tell us it’s never going to happen. I’m holding out hope still though. I don’t want to frustrate them, but I want them to fix the issue and it’s hard being patient. I think 4 years is enough patience.
