…
Someone pointed out earlier in this thread that playlists will do continuous autoplay and I found that to be true in the past.
However, playlists have been broken (at least on the Nvidia Shield) for over a month and won’t play more than one item. This was reported in the following link:
Playlist is not playing one after the other
There hasn’t been a response from PLEX in that thread so I thought it could be brought up here with the relevancy being that the only feature that allowed any kind of continuous autoplay is currently not functioning.
Shocked Pikachu face that there is no support in that thread!
Roku Ultra user here.
So, after reading through most of this thread, apparently I should be able to simply set “repeat all” to bypass these draconian timers.
Firstly, the only option I see for Shuffle from the TV Show page is hidden under 3 dots menu.
Ok, Shuffle, it starts playing immediately. Now… where is this repeat all?
Ok, I have to press OK to get the playback menu. Hmm…no repeat function apparent here either.
Ah, ok, one of the icons takes me to more settings. Playback > Repeat None ; Repeat ; Repeat One are my options. I thought it was “repeat all”? Whatever. “Repeat” selected. Back. Back. Unpause.
What an ridiculous FAFF!
Now waiting to see what happens after 1.5 - 2 hours.
Why not put these choices under the 3 dots menu where the Shuffle is? Seems like it would be simple to add more choices here, like: ‘Shuffle, no Repeat’ and ‘Shuffle, Repeat All’
Another idea would be to add a pop-up when the Play button is pressed that offers the various choices for playback, like: play with timers, play without timers, repeat all, etc.
Doesn’t have to be a toggle at all, just more choices during interaction. The important thing being that they are easy to find and chosen before playback begins. This would solve the problem on all platforms, putting the choice of control at the point of impact.
I’m going to test the theory that playlists get around it too. Too bad making playlists is another ridiculous faff. They should consider implementing a playlist editor overlay. Basically, when you click to create a playlist, the app switches to editor mode and you just move around Plex as usual, except you are just selecting shows, episodes, or movies that you want in the playlist. One click to highlight for adding, another click deselects. Kind of like how multi-select works on phones? Then, there is a ‘Done’ button and everything selected is queued and it asks if you want to save/name the playlist, and if you want to play it now with timers, or no timers, etc etc.
So my Repeat All experiment on Roku Ultra seems to be working. It has been over 1.5 hours and it’s still playing. Futurama, if you’re interested. Just waiting for the 2 hour mark now.
Ok, 2+ hours and still going. It seems Repeat All is the solution at the moment, but setting it up requires a few hoops to jump through. Ah well, I am content for now. Thanks for reading!
Any update on that update? @elan
Wow, this is the thread that never ends! I will add my voice and vote to this as well. I would like a playlist to play through all the way like a playlist in most other media playing apps does. @elan if you need more details than this, i can give them, but seems very basic request to me.
Any update on the update of the update, @elan ??
This never should have been broken by Plex in the first place, and here we are, 3 years later, still trying to get the feature out back into place.
Hey - Yes. Before they updated …it was so easy…on roku ultra, you just had an OSD at the bottom to toggle repeat 1, all or OFF…now it still works like you said, but it’s not repeat all…it’s just repeat one or repeat (same thing) Trust me, it will play FOREVER unless something goes wrong with your server or roku… It’s all other players that this will NOT work…the feature is there, but when enabled it simply does not work…it ONLY works on roku… If this stopped working there is no way I’d continue using Plex. I’m not sure why it’s always worked perfectly on Roku but never anything else.
when they changed it I was so confused at first…but since I use this feature all the time…like literally every single day, I’m so used to it it’s really not a big deal…it does seem a little bit of hoop jumping at first…I’m just glad it works!
Why aren’t TV shows autoplaying for me on Roku devices? I need this feature back. Is there anything I can do? This was one of Plex’s strengths over other streaming options. And no, I don’t always feel like making playlist for all my tv shows.
Plex, please being back autoplay!!! Ridiculous that a few complaints of people that don’t want it would be a reason to remove it. They can put on tv timers if they want.
Now is not the time to remove it. Plex’s constant autoplay and also 24/7 playing of playlists helped me get through one of the worst years of my life being housebound.
Do you think he’s still asking…?
They are having an Entmoot.
I certainly feel vindicated in my original comment of “don’t hold your breath.”
We would’ve all died by now. Thanks for the heads up. Haha
I don’t like autoplay timing out either. But playlists just keep on going, no problem.
@elan
Any update on being able to disable the sleep time out for continuous autoplay? more importantly could you look into Accessibility major issue introduced - please fix urgently. again this relates new features being added to Plex that the server owner does not have control over. thanks man
Unless you’re having problems like a bunch of us Android TV users. Playlists have been broken since December. All I got right now is autoplay with TV shows.
Didn’t know that. The continuous autoplay timeout should be configurable.
I know we are wanting a feature where we can control whether we want the “Pass-Out Protection” enabled or disabled for continuous play. It seems that we have been given workarounds for the time being until this option is created on the client side. I appreciate @elan for providing some feedback and the other Plex Employees. It seems that everyone on this thread has frustrations and I get it. We’re on different pages, at the moment, for what we (Plex Users) want.
It takes balls to respond amongst a frustrated crowd especially when you don’t have all the answers right now. I’ll continue to patiently wait. I’ve spent my vote, I’m responding to the thread and that’s all I am really able to do at this moment in time.
I will say one thing before I end: I know this thread is about wanting continuous play without interruption, but it looks like other threads addressing the concern of wanting to change the time interval (AutoPlay) between episodes and having it load the next one while the credits of the past episode is playing is added to this post and that’s something I hope can be addressed as well.
Like the other streaming giants, they have the ability to have the next episode be available to click on or load when the credits of the last episode are running. It even shows the background art of the show which is a nice touch. This would be something incredible to implement, but at the very least please allow the option to enable continuous play without a timeframe to interrupt.
Again, thank you @elan for being willing to respond and thank you to all the employees as well as our fellow Plex users. Let’s continue being a team to create an incredible interface! It’s not easy explaining your wants or portraying your emotions purely through messaging, and maybe someday Plex will hold monthly or yearly conferences where we can all join in and offer suggestions, but for now let’s do our best with messaging because that’s all we’ve got right now!
Kind Regards,
Your fellow Plex user and avid watcher of many shows
