Correctly identify & display Dolby Atmos, dts:X, and dts-HD MA audio tracks in Plex clients

Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS:X are trademark copyrights for IP that has to be licensed in order to use the logos. I will leave it at that…

Is there a license required simply to show that an audio track is contains Atmos or DTS:X? The logo doesn’t have to be used to at least indicate on the screen that you’re looking at an Atmos track rather than just TrueHD. I’ve gotten around it by creating a Genre for each and manually tagging those movies but it’s not ideal.

I thought the issue before was that ffmpeg didn’t identify that information so Plex couldn’t see it either but that has changed somewhat recently, as I know Kodi can now show that data.

Atleast show the media info as text correctly like most other applications then theres no problems with licensing?, when selecting audio track in the dropdown menu right now it displays incorrectly. I can choose between True HD 7.1 and EAC 5.1 the first one is Atmos, the second one is Dolby Digital Plus. I also have no idea what tracks is DTS:X but I guess they display as DTS HDMA 7.1 or something similar, I need to check in another application/or fire up the movie with the receiver on just to know what audio tracks is embedded in the movie because “logos has royalty fees?” don’t display the logos then just show the correct media info.

Or if it will never be implemented, just add a FAQ “Plex will not support … will show incorrect metadata due to… also no logos due to licensing issues” case closed.

I have no say as a user/forum moderator. You can put in a Feature Request for that.

Sorry im abit annoyed regarding this, i’ve been reading threads now and then for a long time , sometimes the reply is techincally not possible to pull out this information, in other cases royaltys displaying logos, etc, etc, etc, I know they have priorities, but I think after such a long time if it’s not going to be implemented they should shutdown these kinds of repeating questions with a statement, removing guesswork,

I think this feauture request demonstrates that its technically possible, and outside
licensing/royalties, upvoted the feauture request. Might write a bug report though as I think it’s more of a bug

So do it like “Agents” for metadata. The default image is just a jpeg with the same text Plex currently has for a given audio type. Users can just add their own images to replace the default. Plex’s hands are clean and users get what they want.

Same with studio logos. I miss those too.

So put in a feature request.

Why would I create a new one? I was just suggesting an easy way to implement the current feature request.

+1 from me… I was checking why D.A not showing properly and now I know why. Hopefully this will get implemented soo .

i’m amazed this hasn’t been added already. please add this feature which should be baseline functionality in an app like plex.

+1 Come on Plex it is not that hard to tweak this feature. I too want to see the correct Audio labels and HDR.

+1 This should’ve been done long ago and is now a lot more relevant as most new releases come with Atmos or DTS:X

+1 for this feature request. It shouldn’t be that difficult to implement.

+1 - Now that I have an Atmos setup, it’s much more important to be able to see which tracks have Atmos, and it would be nice to filter based on track type.

+1 - I too have Atmos setup and this information shows on every other app I use.
Please display as Text if logos are not an option.

Also would be nice if the Plex app for windows allowed bitstreaming.

In common days a must have feature !
especially because many clients have problems to play back 3d-Sound.
And its (beep) if you need to run alway external App on the server to verify what sound tracks the movie have.

You do not need to show the logos.
But please show the text names or any hint like 5.1.x or 3D-Sound in general.
But please improve it in any way !!!

+1 here as well. I have no idea why you can’t just display the proper text to show Atmos or dtsx. This is a much needed feature.
