Correctly identify & display Dolby Atmos, dts:X, and dts-HD MA audio tracks in Plex clients

Note to moderators: Before opening this request, I did find an existing request. That request is closed as a duplicate with a link to a request that no longer exists. So, since I could not find an open request, I’m submitting this one.

Request: Correctly identify & display Dolby Atmos, dts:X, and dts-HD MA audio tracks in Plex clients.

Plex clients currently show Dolby Atmos as TrueHD audio and dts:x/dts-HD MA as simply dts. Using the information provided by MediaArea’s MediaInfo as a guide, it seems Plex needs to look at the Audio Format Profile field in addition to the Audio Format field.

For dts-HD MA and dts:X audio, Plex already scans the audio profile, identifying both as audioProfile=“ma.” This can be seen by viewing the XML data for the movie. “audioprofile” is not listed in the XML data for movies with Dolby Atmos audio.

Movies with dts-HD MA audio also contain standard dts audio tracks. Fully identifying the available audio track types will make it easier for the user to pick the “best” audio track for their listening environment.

See below for examples.

Thank you for considering this request.

This is a must so users can have movies labeled correctly!

Please add hdr as well.

That would be nice! And HDR / Dolby Vision too please!

I definitely hope this gets some attention. After a couple hours of testing I determined that the issue isn’t with my source files, AVR, or client. Interestingly enough, when I play the Dolby Amaze and Leaf test files I get Atmos to show up on my Denon receiver. But when I try to play Mad Max Fury Road (which has the TrueHD audio) it shows up as Dolby Digital+

Even Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus should be labeled correctly, currently appears as AC3 5.1 or EAC3 5.1, I know AC3 is the technical name, but I would like to see something like “Dolby Digital 5.1” or “Dolby Digital EX 5.1” (when the flag is active inside the codec) or “Dolby Digital Plus 5.1”, or Dolby Digital+ 5.1"…

I also would prefer readable name instead of technical names.

Please please please please give this some love. The fact that Plex has lost features like this is embarrassing.

absolutely must have feature, no question. aplies for 3D sound formats as well as HDR & Dolby Vision

+1. I name my files with the audio codec, but I’d LOVE to see it in the movie info in Plex clients so I can decide whether to switch to a client that supports Atmos or dts:X. (ATV4 is my main streamer and supports 4K and HDR/Dolby Vision but NOT Atmos/dts:X, so for Atmos or dts:X movies, either I switch to a Shield TV (considering) or simply pop the UHD Blu-ray in the UHD Blu-ray player (GASP! Physical media?!?) if I really want the complete trifecta of 4K, HDR, and object-based surround effects.

Trying to bring this thread back alive - it’s still a feature that is sorely needed but doesn’t appear to show up on the new forum as an active feature request.

Yeah this is becoming a big problem now as I try and update my library determining what does and doesn’t have atmos audio already

+1. Really would love to see this implemented!

I would totally vote for this but I’m out of votes. So just a +1 from me unfortunately…

+1 here…Totally agree with everyone. This is becoming more and more critical with all of the newer object based audio formats that are in existence.

+1 still.

This is even more important to me than say, Dolby Vision support. Dolby Vision is easy to strip down to just HDR, but to know whether a track has Atmos or DTS:X. Yeah, we can guess at it, or know it, or label ourselves… But for people like me with mass content, it sure would be nice to just have a label. That’s all.

Seconding this. Atmos still showing as trueHD 7.1.
Has there been no official reply from plex?

Still no feedback :frowning:

?? Plex rarely comments on feature requests and even more rarely posts timelines for upcoming features…

Same issue here, it’s driving me nuts. I can’t tell what’s 7.1 and what is actually Atmos or DTS:X. Devs?
