Hello,
I am currently running intel xeon E3-1270 v5 on my plex server on Windows 10 64bit. There is no way to stream 4K UHD movies with this setup. What CPU do you recommend for GA-X170-EXTREME ECC (LGA1151) ?
What clients are you streaming to? And are you talking about streaming h264 or h265 files?
your system should be able to direct play 4k with no problem.
if your clients can’t direct play, then you should not even be bothering with 4k.
the best and simplest 4k solution is nvidia shield + atmos/4k receiver + 4k tv.
else you need to figure out how to stop trying to transcode 4k.
if you are transcoding for remote/mobile users, the best and simplest way is to keep 4k media in a separate library and do not share 4k library with remote users.
I believe it’s surprising how little power you actually need to Direct Play files. Plex is acting as a handoff in that scenario.
I am trying to play media within the house on different clients. Xbox, PS & tablet.
I am having issue transcoding 4k medial to local users!
to do direct play 4k you need 4k plex client (nvidia shield), 4k/atmos receiver, 4k tv.
other things that will cause 4k transcoding: subtitles, client settings not set to ‘original’ or maximum quality, trying to play HD audio directly through the tv without going through the receiver first. You also need hdmi cables that are 2.x, and the tv/receiver may need to manually set the hdmi mode to 2.x instead of auto or 1.x mode.
You can maybe get 4k to direct play on other devices if you change the audio track to ac3 or aac, and make sure any subtitles are disabled.
I just built a Ryzen 2700x system. CPU is overclocked to 4.2ghz, and I currently have 16gb of 3200 ram overclocked to 3466. I am also running a Quadro P2000 to transcode. I’ve tried giving this thing a workout by transcoding from 4k down to 1080p and 720p, (I know there’s no tone mapping so the colors look washed out) but it is a good way to test. I could easily run 5 4k movies on different devices all transcoding. I’m sure I could do 10-15 simultaneous 4k transcodes. I also have no issues remotely transcoding from 4k to 720 or 1080.
It came to my knowledge also client devices plays a part in 4K UHD experience!
My current setup is XBOX X & PS4 Pro both connected to YAMAHA RX-V781 AVR. FYI I am always running subtitles on UHD movies.
Server: Intel Xeon E3-1270 v5 / GTX980 GPU / Windows 10 64bit / 32GB RAM
Ok then. Xbox currently doesn’t support plex streaming hd audio. Switch to a non HD audio stream… ie ac3 or dts 5.1 or stereo etc.
turn off subtitles for 4k.
Is there a client that does support streaming HD audio & subtitles? without effecting my 4K experience?
yup…
Appreciated
