I’ve recently switched ISPs, which has been 99.5% a good thing since I was suffering with slow rural internet. But I no longer have a public IP (even dynamic), so I’ve had to take other measures to access various services remotely. I got a cheap VPS running Ubuntu and successfully got a self-hosted ngrok server (albeit the v1 code) running and my Raspberry Pi at home talking to it. I’ve gotten other HTTP and TCP services to tunnel through just fine, but I can’t figure out the magic to get Plex to work.
For completeness, I’ve tunneled both TCP and HTTP on my VPS port 32400 to my Plex server (local 192.168.1.90), and have opened up port 32400 on my VPS firewall. To test properly, I’ve disabled relay connections in my server settings, and have entered the following in the “Custom server access URLs” field:
http://tunnel.redacted.com:32400
The relevant parts from my ngok client output:
Tunnel Status online
Version 1.7/1.7
Forwarding tcp://tunnel.redacted.com:32400 -> 192.168.1.90:32400
Forwarding http://tunnel.redacted.com:32400 -> 192.168.1.90:32400
Remote access status shows “Not available outside your network”. Am I misusing or misunderstanding the “Custom server access URLs” field? Should I even be able to access Plex remotely via a tunnel? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
