In my opinion, this is useless, giving more rights to the people that are using your service, than to the owner of the service… And this has been already for years and years, and sorry Plex, if you think this is the correct way to go, but it is not
If I am sharing media with someone from my own hardware, then I should be able to determine how they get it. Period.
This server owner versus user argument is a moot point because everything the user needs is owned by the server owner…If someone doesn’t like how my media is served, they are free to move on.
Yeah, actions speak louder than words. Elan will say what he can to save face, but ultimately they’ve chosen to prioritize other features over critical issues with plex; all in the name of profit.
Edit:
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they eventually sunset the forums, because from an outsider looking in, it looks really bad despite what other members of the Plex team have to say about the it getting better in recent years.
Plex implements new features to increase the income. This is also a benefit for us. If they focus only on needs of lifetime Plex Pass users, they won’t survive
the problem is when their old features and new ones, as buggy as hell… Then they should maybe stop making new ones, and fixing the ones they have already developed.
This is just unbelievable. Been a Plex user for 3 years, I keep saying to myself “those ancient defaults must be changed ANY day now”, but nothing ever happens. Such a small effort required to keep people from jumping ship the moment Jellyfin reaches maturity, yet they simply don’t care…
It is true, just because you’ve fixed unrelated issues doesn’t mean that the numerous other addon services don’t take time away from fixing major issues.
You can claim they’re all different teams, I honestly don’t care. That man power should be fixing major issues before introducing more feature creep.
Lifetime memberships give you a large sum of money up front, but in the long term it simply isn’t sustainable. If everyone bought one, you’d have to find a new way to monetize.
I rather pay $4.99 per month, increasing your long term revenue in exchange for a more stable product.
I understand that, but you also have to factor in server admins calling it quits due to issues like these.
This is probably my last post here. I’m no longer serving my friends and family. I’ve put many thousands of dollars into this endeavor and hundreds of hours of my time. I’m tired of fighting against the software. I don’t even plan to use Plex myself anymore. Less stress and hassle to pony up and pay for streaming services.
