Default/Forced PGS Subtitles in MKV containers (full BR rips) not showing up

I recently made the decision to go 1 to 1 on my movie collection. Meaning full rips to MKV with MakeMKV with any foreign language/forced subtitles included. Sounded easy enough.

I’ve made several so far that have foreign parts which VLC picked up on no problem and I tested one of those in PMP (and Plex Web) and the subtitles were not automatically showing. I had to select an “English” track that I knew was the track I needed.

I figured since VLC picked it up, so would Plex so I loaded it into MKVToolNix to see what the track was actually set as. It is set at “default”, but not “forced”. Is this is why Plex is not setting the subtitle upon scanning the media? If it were set to “default” AND “forced” would Plex pick up on it when scanning the media?

I need to know now so I can fix before adding into Plex in the future. And of course that’s going to mean verifying every single one I do that should contain forced subtitles. Unless Plex can be made to follow the default flag as well as forced, which I doubt.

Also I did verify that Server Languages is set to English/Shown with foreign audio/English just in case you were wondering.

Correct! You must have them flagged as forced.

Default flag is trivial but setting it does no harm.

Yeah, I was wondering. Then you should be ready to go as soon as you set the forced flag and refresh metadata for those newly added items.

Thank you. Now I know what direction to go as I plow down this road!

FYI - I verified this in PMP after running through MKVToolNix. Worked like a charm.
