Default to 5.1 vs. 2.0 audio (movie sound vs. director commentary)?

Is there a way to have Plex default to 5.1 or surround sound (when available) vs. defaulting to 2.0 stereo? The stereo sound in several movies is director’s commentary.

I dont think it is defaulting to 2.0 it is probably just picking the first audio track in file or it is maybe picking it because of the tagged language preference.

what version of server are you running. can you post the media xml of file.

It is choosing the first audio track. I have a huge mix of movies with commentary, and it never gets selected first, since it is never the first audio track.

It must be first track, as I ripped the DVDs w/Handbrake, so that makes sense. Can I ask Plex to default to a non-2.0 track if it’s available in the preferences?

Bump, I have a similar issue… And I guess we’re not alone seeing many people encode files with aac 2.0 as the first track for appletvs…

Any way to change this behavior? Especially useful for the Playstation app which doesn’t allow you to select the track before starting playback

Any update on this?

Same boat. I remember this being a problem on the Xbox One app and they eventually resolved it. Hope they can do the same here.

My mistake–initially searched for Apple TV so thought this was corresponding to that.

bumpity bump - can we ask that plex server select a 5.1 track if available vs. a 2.0 track?

Bumpity bumpity boop!

Bumping indeed!
