Delete media index files

I'd be happy to have a way to delete media index files from the advanced settings page in the server as I really don't feel confident doing it the way it must be done right now...

Thank you guys for this awesome piece of software!

What Operating System?

The server is actually on a Win7 machine (that I use for daily job) but I was considering moving it to a dormant Vista machine (yeah, I know...).

I would like this as well. I used to use the index files when I used my Roku but now they don't have a benefit for me but they are taking space.

On windows, the easiest and safest way to delete the index files is to let explorer find them and delete that way:

1.  open explorer

2.  go to the Plex directory

3.  search for *.BIF (upper right corner of explorer window)

4.  highlight one result then press Ctrl-A (select all)

5.  press the Delete key.

In linux, it's even easier:

sudo find /var/lib/plexmediaserver -name \*.bif -print -exec rm -rf {} \;

Make certain you've turned off Image file generation in Settings first.

ChuckL : Thank you for your help. If I remove the files the way you described, will the database clean itself?

After you remove them, if you wish to expedite the process just in case they are, simply refresh your library.

I don't use them but also don't remember seeing them in the database per se.  Chris C or one of the others may be able to shed definitive light on that.

But you also need to remove them from the database!

THANK YOU!

I knew I was deficient in the proper procedure to get everything out.

Thanks

dane22 : This is why I'm suggesting this feature because the procedure described in the link you gave me is not something I feel confident to fiddle with...
